FISH CULTURE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

PREPARATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE POND
1. Prepare the pond – Dry the pond to remove all the

recondition the soil and expel toxic gases from the soil.
2. Apply Fertilizer – Fertilize the pond with dried chicken
manure at the rate of 1 kg per 10 square meters to let
the natural fish food organisms grow.
3. Stock the Breeder – Two weeks after the fertilization,
stock the breeders in the pond at a sex ratio of 3
females to 1 male (3:1) per square meter.
4. Feeding the fishpond – Feeding is the best done late in
the day and once a day. During the cold season,
feeding should be stopped as the fish will not eat.
5. Management of Stocking Pond – Maintain the pond
condition appropriate to the growth of the stock. The
water lost during evaporation must be restored.
6. Harvesting and Marketing – Determine the size of the
fish before attempting to sell. Take note of the
container that must conform with standards, such as
freshness, color, weight and the number of fish per kilo
