DESIGN BASIS REPORT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF INDIAN

COAST GUARD JETTY AT OOT VADINAR

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Regional works Commander, Coast Guard region (NW), Gandhinagar intended to
construct Coast guard station at vadinar, Gujarat. The Construction of Coast guard Jetty at
OOT Vadinar is to be carried out as a deposit work by Kandla Port Trust. Kandla Port Trust
has accepted the proposal for the constructing of a Jetty length 175 m along with approach
road to the jetty of length 275 m. The scope of work for IIT Madras, Chennai shall include
preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) and Feasibility study for the project.
2.0 GENERAL ARRANGEMENT
The construction of coast guard jetty involves an approach jetty and a landing jetty of
dimensions (275m X 9m & 175m X 13m) respectively. The approach road to the proposed
jetty shall be of piled platform. The general layout is given at Annexure.
3.0 STRUCTURAL ARRANGEMENT
The proposed Landing jetty shall be divided into 4 blocks with expansion joint of 40mm. It
consists of 3 rows of RCC bored cast-in-situ piles of 1200mm diameter spaced at 5.0 m and
cantilever projection of 1.5 m on each side totaling 13m width. The longitudinal spacing of
piles shall be 5m. Top level of the landing jetty is proposed as (+) 8.50m (C.D).
The Approach Jetty shall be divided into 5 blocks with expansion joint of 40mm. It consists
of bored cast-in-situ piles of 1200mm diameter spaced at 5m longitudinally and 7.5m
transversely. The deck level of approach jetty shall be (+) 8.50m (C.D). The Founding
level of jetty shall be (-) 32m.

The sizes of the members of landing jetty considered are under:

Sl.no Description Dimension (mm)

Pile 1200 mm dia
2. Pile Muff 1(Pre-Cast) 1500*1500*400
2. Pile Muff 2 (Pre-Cast) 2250*1500*400

6b. Cast-in situ 100 mm thick
6c. Wearing coat 100 mm thick
7. Service Gallery 1000*2000
The sizes of the members approach jetty considered are under:

Sl.no Description Dimension

1. Pile 1200 mm dia
2. Pile Muff 1500*1500*400
3. Cross Beam 800*1200
4. Long Beam 600 *1000
5. Deck Slab 400 mm thick

4.0 DREDGING
Analyzing bathymetry chart submitted by Kandla Port Trust (vadinar), it is observed at the
current proposed location for the Coast Guard Jetty is found to be at (-) 11m depth and the
maximum draft required for the Coast Guard Vessels is only (-) 6.5m. The Approach
channel also has sufficient depth to handle the draft of (-) 6.5m. Hence dredging at
proposed site is not required.

9.0 DESIGN METHODOLOGY

A 3D analysis shall be carried out using conventional STAAD Pro software. The critical
load case shall be considered for the design. All the elements shall be designed as per Limit
state of collapse and checked for Limit state of serviceability.

10.0 LOAD DATA

10.1 Dead Load:
The dead loads shall be assessed considering following unit weight of materials.

Plain Concrete : 24.0 kN/m 3

Reinforced Concrete : 25.0 kN/m 3

10.2 Live Load:

A live load of 10kN/m2 is considered for landing jetty and 10kN/m2 for approach jetty.

10.3 Mooring Force:

As per details received, taking maximum displacement of vessel as 3300 T. As
per I.S 4651-part 3, table 4 , the bollard shall be 50 tons as per the requirement
of Coast Guard.

Line pull shall be taken as 50 Tonnes i.e = 50 KN

10.5 Berthing Force:

(3/2) x Mooring
Berthing force shall be considered as = force
1.5x500
=

= 750 kN

10.6 Seismic Load:

The seismic force has been calculated in accordance with the Earthquake code IS 1893-
2002. The code specifies the earthquake zone for the above work as Zone IV and the basic
horizontal seismic coefficient is calculated accordingly.

SF = Ah (DL + ½ LL)
The horizontal seismic coefficient is as follows
ZISa
Ah = 2Rg
Where,

Ah = Design horizontal seismic coefficient

Z = Zone Factor = 0.24
I = Importance Factor = 1.5
R = Response Factor = 3.0

( Sa ) = Average response acceleration co-efficient

g
Seismic Force = Ah (DL + ½ LL)
