MAINTENANCE SERVICE LETTER NOTE: The information contalns in this Maintenance Service Lever DOES NOT supersede instruction or Information that contained in the Maintenance or ather approved publications, unless specifically stated, SUBJECT: Trent 1000 - ENG CONTROL Status Message Due to PS26 Pipe Blocked MM 73- 93951/2 and SAS Valve MM 73-99301/2 REFERENCES: /A/service Related Problem (SRP) 787-FTD-76-0017, dated 12-JUN-2015 /B/Pleet Team Digest (FID) 787-FTD-73-15003 dated 27-NOV-2016 EFFECTIVITY: 787 AIRCRAFT, POWERED BY TRENT 1000 PACK B OR PACK C ENGINES. Trent 1000/B787s has been experiencing in-service delays due to ENG CONTROL Faults set immediately after engine start. The correlated maintenance messages observed are: 73-93551 “Electronic Engine Controller (Left/Right Engine) PS26 pipe is blocked or leaking 73-99301 “Secondary Air System Valve (Left/Right Engine) temperature signals indicate high when commanded low. Typically, these messages have been observed on ET-ATK in Ethiopian fleet. Discussion All of the events occurred during simultaneous engine start. 75% of the occurrences of this fault were during engine starts with ambient temperature less than S®C. In all occurrences the SAS valve message has shown to be a secondary effect of the PS26 pipe blockage check failing. This problem has not been encountered at Boeing during engineering or production flight test, including simultaneous engine starts. The problem is related to timing of the EEC PS26 Pipe Leak Check which is conducted during engine start, an engine handling bleed valve closure that occurs in proximity to this check, and the rate at which the engine accelerates during engine start. In a small subset of engine starts, the timing can align in such a way as to cause the fault. The problem does not occur during single engine starts. This is therefore, to advise the concerned sections to perform single engine start (avoid simultaneous engine start) until a final fix is released from the manufacturer.
