The three day industrial tour to Lagos was a splendid experience.

A total of eighteen students from the


Department of Electrical and Electronic Egineering. The tour featured industrial visit to Egbin power
generating company and Schneider electric.

EGBIN POWER PLC, Lagos is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria.
Often seen as the biggest single generating power station in Black Africa, it was built to meet the
ever rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs.

Before the construction of Egbin Power Plc, Lagos, the Ijora Power Station which is reputed as
the oldest power plant in the country was the main source of electricity supply around

At egbin, the company was located near Lagos lagoon due to the fact that they generate electricity using
steam hence the need for large volume of water was necessary. At Egbin, water from the lagoon is first
purified and then heated to about 500 degree centigrade in the boiler. The steam is then used to drive a
turbine at a speed of almost 3000 rev/min. They make use of generator with stator and rotor. Different
transformers are then used to step up or step down for distribution purpose. It was also said that the
Egbin power generating station distributes electricity to Benin.

The excursion also featured side attractions which was a visit to Nike Art gallery and Elegunshi private
beach.

Nike Art Centre, Lagos, is one of Nigeria's hidden treasures. Located in Lekki, Lagos, the four-story
building compromises of an art gallery and textile museum featuring over 7,000 pieces and soon to have
Coffee shop. The Centre has a diverse collection of art by a multitude of artists, celebrating Nigeria's
talent, offering visitors an insight into all cultures of Nigeria through the medium of art. It can take up to
a full day to discover all the Nike Art Centre has to offer. Fortunately, the gallery is open 7 days a week
often holding art exhibitions, workshops and cultural days. If you're feeling creative you can take an art
course with Nike or go on one of her week-long retreats outside of Lagos in Osun state (Osogbo), Kogi
state (Ogidi) and Abuja, all of which you can visit with 'Nike Tours'. The tours offer overnight
accommodation at her guesthouses, and partake in creating traditional African crafts such as adire, batik,
indigo, beadwork, painting, or carving. Nike Art Centre is an impressive gallery and a must for art lovers
