Letters of Recommendation

Please provide your referee with a draft of your proposal and let them know that you will
register them through the Fulbright application system to submit your letter. You will register 3
people online, this will generate an email to each referee with instructions. Letters are due
on September 13 as well, please list this date as the deadline for your referees.

**You are required to submit a hard copy of your application to the office for
fellowships the day after the campus deadline, at this time please also provide a list of
the names of the people writing on your behalf and their email addresses.**

Full Grants: There will be space to complete the letter or upload a document in The Fulbright
application system. The referee should log in and follow the instructions. To view these
instructions visit https://us.fulbrightonline.org/instructions-for-study-research-recommendation-
writers

English Teaching Assistantships: Referees should complete the form provided for the
ETA, this is not a standard letter of recommendation, rather a series of prompts that the
referee will respond to. Please tell those writing on your behalf that there is a form they
need to complete when you ask them to write for you. This will prevent them from writing
a standard letter only to find out they need to complete the form! To read the instructions and
see an example of the form visit: https://us.fulbrightonline.org/instructions-for-eta-
recommendation-writers Your referees have to log into the system to gain access to the
form they should not fill out this PDF this is only an example!

Language Evaluations: You will register someone to complete the language evaluation. Just
like the letters, the person completing the form will get an email with instructions. To view
these instructions visit and view a sample of the form visit
https://us.fulbrightonline.org/instructions-for-foreign-language-evaluators The person completing
your eval has to log into the system to gain access to the form they should not fill out
this PDF this is only an example!

It is ok to have one person do both a language eval and a letter of recommendations.

Please be sure to read both sides of this document.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION TO BE UPLOADED BY THE APPLICANT (YOU!)

Affiliation Letters

For full grants only, applicants for ETAs do not secure letters of affiliation. These are letters from
institutions or people abroad who have agreed to support your application. Ask that the letter be
emailed to you as a PDF so that you can easily upload it to The Fulbright application system.
Otherwise you will have to scan the letter for upload. You can combine letters if you reach the
maximum number of documents to upload.

Transcripts

If you are a current student you can upload a copy of your Ask Banner transcript to The
Fulbright application system:

 To download a copy of your unofficial transcript from Banner open your transcript in
AskBanner:
o For a Mac: select print, select pdf button on bottom of dialogue box, save as a pdf file
o For PC: save as a text file

If you are an alum, you will need to request a transcript from the registrar’s office and upload
it to the application. You can request the transcript to be sent to you electronically, it is ok if it
says “issued to student.”

If you attended other institutions and the grades are not listed on your Vassar transcript
you should also request these transcripts from the institutions that you have attended and
scan them for upload; you do not need to do this for JYA courses listed on your VC transcript.

All of the components of the application must be submitted electronically through the
Fulbright application system by midnight on the September 13 deadline. You must also
submit a hard copy of the application to the office of fellowships the following day. If
Sept 13 falls on a weekend you can drop the app off on Monday or put it in the regular
mail. You do not need the supporting documentation submitted in hard copy, just your
portion of the application.

You will have an opportunity to fine tune your essays after the committee meets. I will re-
submit the application back to you. When you submit the application through The Fulbright
application system you are sending it to me not IIE, don’t worry!

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the process. You can tell those
writing on your behalf that I am available to answer questions as well. Good luck!

Please be sure to read both sides of this document.
