Corporate Profile
INTRODUCTION
Robert Cort Valves Limited are a British valve
manufacturer with over 70 years’ proven
experience in the design and manufacture
of high quality pipeline valves, actuators and
pressure protection systems, serving the
global oil and gas industry.

The Cort range of valves have earned an

enviable reputation for quality, reliability and
long service life by serving in some of the
most arduous locations in the world for many
decades. These key qualities are further
enhanced by our commitment to exceptional
on-time delivery performance, delivered by
our experienced team of skilled engineers
who understand and step-up to the
challenging demands of our served markets.

Our in-house systems allow us to record the

performance of every valve and its’ ancillary
equipment we supply. This means, no matter
how long they have been in service, we are
ready and able to quickly identify support
spares and get them to site to maximise
in-service life operability.

In February 2012, Robert Cort Valves

Limited became a manufacturing subsidiary
of Wärtsilä Valves Limited. Wärtsilä
Corporation employs 18,000 people and
has more than 170 offices and factories in
over 70 countries worldwide providing local
product support on a global scale.

“Our comprehensive historical

records allow us to manage
and support our client’s assets
by providing the correct OEM
replacement spare parts or
direct replacement valves.”

C-B5 Trunnion Mounted API-6D Ball Valve
The CORT C-B5 Ball Valve uses a three piece, bolted body
design manufactured from ring rolled forgings. The cast or forged
ball features integral, external trunnions which turn in bearings
mounted in bearing retainer blocks. These bearing retainers are
precision located between the ball valve closures which are then
able to resist the pressure loading on the ball.

3 Valves and Through-Life Asset Management

C-G4 Through Conduit Gate Valves
The unique fabricated body of the Cort C-G4 valves provides
maximum strength combined with minimum size and weight.
The rectangular configuration permits reduction of the body cavity
to the minimum required to house the gate and seat ring assemblies.
The result is a lighter, more compact pipeline gate valve with a small
body cavity which minimizes product loss when the valve is drained.

Size Range 6” - 48” (DN150mm - 1200mm)

Pressure Ratings ANSI Classes:150- 1500

• Designed and manufactured to API 6D • Secondary seat seal
• All internal components can be replaced without removing • Emergency sealant injection (seat and stem seals)
the valve from the line • Extended blow down valves
• Bubble-tight sealing from zero to full rated pressure • Stem extensions for operating underground.
• Stem Protector • Transition Pieces
• Life lubricated bearings - no routine maintenance
• Floating parallel sided gate can’t stick, wedge or gall Applications
• Floating spring loaded seats always in contact with the gate Flowlines, manifolds, pipeline transmission and distribution,
metering runs, underground storage, hot tapping, water
• Self-cleaning gate
flood and general pipeline service.
• Piggable
• Metal-to-metal primary seal – protected ‘O’ ring secondary seal
• Upstream and downstream sealing under all operating conditions
– full block and bleed capability
• Suited for services requiring block bleed or double block and bleed
• Body cavity is isolated from the valve conduit when the valve
is fully open or closed. This allows the body to be vented to
atmosphere or drained with the valve under pressure.

C-G5 & C-G9 Wafer Gate Valves
C-G5
The C-G5 is a compact and rugged valve of a unique design.
It is a wafer thin valve using an oval, bolted body with integral
raised faces and is drilled and tapped to suit the pipeline flanges.

C-G9
The C-G9 valve has a flat, fabricated body with integral raised
faces and is drilled and tapped to suit pipeline flanges. The valve
is opened by withdrawing a circular gate into a fabricated bonnet.
The bonnet is formed by pressure during manufacture to produce
a very strong but relatively light component.

Cort Systems & Actuators
Cort Systems
Cort supplies a range of complete valve control systems, including
Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD’s):-
In conjunction with the major oil and gas producers, we have also
developed packages which provide line protection under abnormal
operating conditions, including:
• Solar Powered Pipeline Emergency Shutdown System –
used to enable emergency shutdowns in pipelines where no
conventional power source is available.
• The Flowline Emergency Shutdown System – A simple and
economical method of isolating a well installation in the event of
abnormally high or low flowline pressure, especially in remote
locations where no electricity or instrument air is available.
• Pressure Protection System (PPS) – A trunnion mounted
pipeline ball valve, complete with Scotch Yoke actuator and
control system supplied in a self-contained and compact unit
designed to protect equipment downstream of a pressure
reducing station in a gas distribution system.

Emergency shut down system (ESD)

Scotch Yoke Actuators

Pressure protection
Cort actuators are scotch yoke quarter turn design, system (PPS)
with torque outputs from 5423 Nm to 73214 Nm.
These actuators can be operated by instrument air,
hydraulic fluid or line gas. Remote and local control
can also be provided. Manual over-ride is available
for emergency operation.

VALVE OPERATION
CORT valves supply a complete engineered package
of valve and operating equipment to provide any means
of operation, such as:-

Manual Powered
Wrench, multi-turn gearbox, quarter-turn gearbox or hand Any pneumatic, hydraulic or electric actuator may be specified.
pump. Locks may be fitted to prevent unauthorised operation. A powerpack is often provided to convert the energy source
Interlocks are used where sequential operation is specified. available on site into the form most suitable to operate the valve.

Automatic Remote
The operation is under control of a computer, PLC or devices such Any remote operating system and protocols may be specified.
as fire or pipeline leakage detectors. For fail-safe systems it is
normal to protect against power failure by storing sufficient energy
for valve operation.
