1. D5NS- dextrose 5percent in normal saline (0.9%)


 KCL in D5NS should be used only if prescribed during pregnancy.
2. SOB- Shortness of breath
 The patient that has severe anemia had SOB.
3. GERD- Gastrointestinal reflux disease
 Pregnant women mostly suffer from heartburn or acid indigestion caused by GERD.
4. HRt- Hormone replacement therapy
 In women, HRt is used as replacement of female sex hormones to control symptoms of
menopause.
5. IV drip – intravenous infusion
 IV drip is the fastest way to deliver medications and fluid replacement throughout the
body.
6. Supp. -Suppository
 Drugs are mostly taken by mouth or orally some are given by supp. or by injection.
7. Sutures- stiches
 The nurse performed 8 sutures on the cut of the lady’s arm that she got on an accident.
8. Benign -Not cancerous
 The doctor confirmed that the tumor on my right shoulder is of benign nature.
9. Malignant- cancerous
 The doctor explained to her patient that the malignant cells are invading and destroying
the muscle fibers of the patient’s heart.
10. Chronic pain syndrome- long-term, severe pain that doesn’t spring from injury or illness, that
interferes with daily life, and is often accompanied by other problems, such as depression,
irritability and anxiety.
 After further tests by the doctor , the former race car driver was diagnosed of chronic
pain syndrome.
