INTRODUCTION

The Department of Education stated that Work Immersion is one of the course

requirements for graduation. A Senior High School student has to undergo Work

Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal.

Through Work Immersion, the students are exposed and become familiar with their

field of specialization to their work-related environment to enhance their competence.

In Work Immersion program, students are provided with “actual workplace”

experience, giving students a set of technical-vocational and livelihood skills that can

help them make more informed career choices and improve their employment prospects

as they proceed to college. During this program, students will be able to gain relevant

and practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry experts and workers,

appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories taught in

school, enhance their technical knowledge and skills, enrich their skills in

communications and human relations and develop good work habits, attitudes,

appreciation, and respect for work, which is mainly the reason of having a higher

possibility to avoid unemployment because of job-mismatch and enable them to look

toward their life on the future.

Academic institutions are faced with challenges particularly on the skills

they produced which do not match the needs of the industry. A significant number of

graduates today are unable to fill the job openings due to job-skill mismatch. A great

number of these skills found lacking by companies are taught in the academe that is,
technical, human resource and conceptual skills and the program that response to this

issue was work immersion and on-the-job training itself.

When Work Immersion Program is held in the Philippines, most of the students

in Grade 12 are Afraid on their deployment and be placed to their respective stations for

some reasons, such as lack of experience and skills which is one of the reason why

Work Immersion is Part of K-12 Curriculum that seeks to develop the process of

learning and attain a higher standard of Education all over the world. This program

serves as a greatest privilege for the students to gain more as they can get from school

and only not to learn what is needed but also what is necessary like possessing a proper

approach, adaptation on where or what particular society they are into. Work Immersion

also partakes in making the students responsible as they are a real employee in an

industry like waking up as early as they can in order to arrive their work on time. This

program tends to help the students not only to enhance their selves but also triggers

them to look even further on their chosen strand or career.

According to Wood & Bandura (1989) as cited in Machmud (2018) states that

perception in completing a job is self-efficacy. Moreover, self-efficacy relates to

someone's confidence in achieving his/her duties in uncertainty. While Bandura (1997)

as cited in Domenech-Betoret et al. (2017) defined self-efficacy as “an individual’s

belief in his or her own ability to organize and implement action to produce the desired

achievements and results”. Self-efficacy is one’s faith in accomplishing task

successfully. Learners automatically adjust and adopt the new environment they are in

for them to finish the immersion program while developing their efficiency. This
statement proves that work immersion can possibly help a student to enhance or

develop what competences they got and where they are capable with.

This research was conducted by the students of CSS honesty, emphasizing the

impact of work immersion to the Computer System Servicing Students of Jose

Panganiban National High School.

The result of the study could help in collaboration with the school head and

administration for them to generate innovations or strategic design for Continuous

Improvement Plan that would serve as one of the best practices of the school.

The outcomes of the study can be of interest for the institution and can be taken

into consideration when formulating and proposing improvement recommendations of

the policies, regulations and operational measures in this field that would serve as best

practices of the school.
