This was to gat an understanding end overview of the track geometry across Europe in order to support the defniton of track geometric quality classes forthe writing of EN 19048-5. This Technical Report descrtes the methodology used forthe survey and gives the results 2. The qualy dala of each network was provided in the form of cumulative frequency distributons of algrment and longitudinal evel, Each of the participating networks provided qualy data for a representative pat of their network according to the technical speciiaton described below in 4.2. Wih the help ofa standardized inquiry form, the cumulative frequency latributions of the quality data were determined and were sentto the CEN/TC 258/SC 1/0G 28 cleaving office In order to make the data anonymous, the clearing office assigned a random network number to the quality data of feach network and summarized the track geometry quality data in an anonymous comparison table, This was ‘Supplied to CENITC 256/SC 1VG 28 ony. \winout agreement of all participating networks nether the claring office nor CEN/TC 256/SC 1G 28 may disclose or publish any of the qualy data or the assignment between qualty data and parcipating networks as a whole on pats to anyone else. 4.2Gollected data 42.4 Scope of survey ‘The survey collected data for all main nes, main tracks in stations and isatalad switches oF group of switches siuated in plain ino and run at line spoed. Al side tracks, station tracks or other loss important tracks ware excluded “The survey was based on measurements of track taken typically at 25 cm spacing which results in large volume of data. For example, a network longth of 10.000 km track would result in @ cumulative frequency distribution ‘comprising of over 40 millon measuring points “The survey was conducted using the most recent measurement value fr each location, This was summarize in a cumulative frequoncy distribution. Where it was not possible fora participating network to do the calculation over their whole network, the caleultion was done for at least % ofthe network while the track layout and track qualty considered in tha sample had to bo {2S representative as possible for the network. The track length considered for each speed class had to be quoted in the standardized Inquiry form, 42.2 Spood classos applied “The survey was done in five speed classes according to the EN 13848 series: = 280 kmth < 7300 kmh = 160 kth < 75230 kmh 120 kmh < 7 £160 kh = 80kmh < 1's 120 kmh = Vs 80 kmh ‘Speeds higher than 300 kmh were not taken into account due tothe lack of sufficient data, “BB CENITR 18513:2014 CENITR 16513:2014 (E) « [Pl/oweny oe > oaeelias In order to ensure anonymity of networks with high speed tracks, the network langths ofthe paripating networks: Wore not disclosed in the final comparison table. They were just used as weighing factrs io calculate a "European Track Quality. 42.3 Calculation of standard deviation ‘The survey was done using standard deviations of longitudinal level SD\, and alignment SD in the domain Dt (3m <7 25") in accordance wih EN 13848-1. Whore the origin ofthe measurement data was chord based, thoy were re-coloured t obtain D1 Data of fet and right rll were combined as 2 mean ofthe standard deviatons ofeach rll as folows: SDe 4 SD sD. = Aue Ms 0 SD an + SDs ye SD. 2 @ ‘The caloulation ofthe standard deviation was spectied 28 flows: — calculation fength: 200 m to 250 m — caleulation step: preferabty al every measurement databreak, 0.9. 0.25 m. I not possible, calculalion slap up te 250 m may be chosen Slightly diferent defntions of standard deviations were allowed iit was proven that the statistical influence on the cumulative frequency was small 424 Calculation of cumulative frequency distributions Once these paramoters had been calculated the cumulative frequency distribution was determined in steps of 1.01 mm foreach speed cass, 4.3 Data processing “The cumulative frequency cstbutions of all participating networks for the fve speed classes were produced and a ‘weighted average was calculated for each step of the frequency distribution. The line length of each participating hetwork in the considered speed class was used as weighing factor. In this way ‘European Track Quality ‘istbutons' were determined for the fve speed classes and both Si. and Su. These cumulative frequency {istibutons are represented in Figures 1 and 8 and in Table At 5. This represents 2 37 % sample ofthe participating networks. The total track length of all the participating networks Is about 160 000 km, this Is more than half ofthe ‘tack length ofthe European Union member states. ‘Some networks provided data for nearly all the ln, others provided email samples. In any caso, they have boon representative forthe speed class in the whole network.
