when cracks and voids are visible, SABIC shall have the right to ask for samples of any hardened concrete
to be taken and tested as described below.
Contractor shall repair/restore the cored holes by material/procedure approved by SABIC

Fresh concrete must be avoided to be in contact with aluminum or pump line made of that
Concrete carrying trucks shall be always cleaned with water and free from hardened concrete
After discharge from mixer, concrete to be immediately transported by agitated trucks which will
create non contamination of ingredients, segregation

Placement
STD ACI 301 and 304
Prior to placement make ensure all SABIC Inspection is finished
Movement of formworks and rebar to be checked and controlled while placement of concrete
Temperature of concrete and climatic conditions, concreting not to proceed during sandstorm
Max height & depth of pour are 1m and 60cm

Compaction
Std ACI 309 Consolidation of concrete
Full compaction of the concrete is achieved through the entire depth of layer, it shall be thoroughly
worked around formworks and rebars properly
Power driven poker type vibrator
Immersion type vibrator
Placed vertically in successive intervals to have good compaction, good bonding in preceding layers
Over vibration causing segregation or leakage through formwork avoided
Standby equipment for vibration and compaction to be arranged
Vibration not to be used in a way so that it will damage formwork, displace rebar and segregate the
mix

PROTECTION OF CONCRETE
See separate SABIC Procedure

TRIAL MIX DESIGN

See complete QCS with exception

Std – ACI 308 Building code requirements for reinforced concrete

Concrete shall be central mixed in a batching plant in accordance with ASTM C 94 and this
standard. The relative proportions of fine and coarse aggregates, workability and strength of the
mixes shall be determined by production equipment trial mixes.
Once the aggregate proportions have been accepted by SABIC, they shall not be changed
without SABIC approval.

All test on the trial mixes, including 28 days compressive strength test, shall be completed and
approved by SABIC prior to concrete pouring.

Acceptance of trial mix will be made by SABIC when proportions, slump, workability,
consistency, impermeability, water/cementitious materials ratio and all other requirements of this
standard have been met, and when the strength test results for each of the specified concrete
strengths also match
Six (6) separate test mixes shall be prepared for each proposed mix design, and six (6) test
cylinders shall be made from each test mix, giving a total of 36 cylinders for each proposed mix
design.

The test cylinders shall be made and cured in accordance with ASTM C 192 and tested in
accordance with ASTM C 39. Additionally, enough samples shall be prepared for the other tests
required by this standard.
Eighteen (18) concrete cylinders shall be tested for compressive strength at 7 days and 28 days
(total 36). The mean strengths and standard deviations shall be established for each test.

The test mixes shall demonstrate that:

The standard deviation is 3.5 MPa or less
The mean concrete strength is equal to or higher than the strengths specified in Table XI, with no
individual strength test deviating from these values more than 10 %.
