CURING
See Royal standards + QCS 2002 + PDO
PROTECTION OF CONCRETE
See separate SABIC Procedure
Concrete shall be central mixed in a batching plant in accordance with ASTM C 94 and this
standard. The relative proportions of fine and coarse aggregates, workability and strength of the
mixes shall be determined by production equipment trial mixes.
Once the aggregate proportions have been accepted by SABIC, they shall not be changed
without SABIC approval.
All test on the trial mixes, including 28 days compressive strength test, shall be completed and
approved by SABIC prior to concrete pouring.
Acceptance of trial mix will be made by SABIC when proportions, slump, workability,
consistency, impermeability, water/cementitious materials ratio and all other requirements of this
standard have been met, and when the strength test results for each of the specified concrete
strengths also match
Six (6) separate test mixes shall be prepared for each proposed mix design, and six (6) test
cylinders shall be made from each test mix, giving a total of 36 cylinders for each proposed mix
design.
The test cylinders shall be made and cured in accordance with ASTM C 192 and tested in
accordance with ASTM C 39. Additionally, enough samples shall be prepared for the other tests
required by this standard.
Eighteen (18) concrete cylinders shall be tested for compressive strength at 7 days and 28 days
(total 36). The mean strengths and standard deviations shall be established for each test.
