TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OF

BRASOV
• A town with a special position and an old history,
Brasov, called "The Town Under Tâmpa", has a feel
of stories, with its colorful houses, turrets and
roofed rooftops of tile. Old and picturesque Brasov
can be found "on foot" taking it on its cobblestone
streets, much of its attractions being concentrated
in the historic center.
PIA Ț A
 SFATULUI

This romantic place full of history, which was and is the "heart" of the old fortress of Brasov, is at a "stick throw" of all the objectives
to be seen in the City of Tâmpa. In Council Square is the old town hall, Rathaus or the House of the Council, built in 1420, a
building that combines several architectural styles, which only confirm its history. Thus, the ground floor of the building, which now
houses the History Museum of Brasov, still retains elements of the Gothic style, while the attic, the attic and the tower follow the
Renaissance and Baroque lines
• Also in the Council Square there is the old House of Merchants, built between 1539-
1545. The beautiful Orthodox Cathedral „Adormirea Maicii Domnului” (built between
1895-1896, according to the model of the Greek church in Vienna). There are some
nice cafes and restaurants in Council Square, it's worth looking a little to get the "pulse"
of the beautiful city, maybe the most beautiful in Romania.
• With luck, you will witness the changing of the city's guard and the honors given to it by
visitors and locals from the House of the Tower.
BLACK CHURCH
• One of the most representative architectural monuments in Romania, the Black Church. With its
89 meters long and 38 meters wide, the Black Church is the largest edifice of Gothic-style
worship in South-Eastern Europe. Built from 1385 and known until the great fire in 1689 under
the name of the "Holy Mary Church," the Black Church can accommodate about 5,000 people.
The building was partially destroyed by the 1689 fire, from where the name that made it famous
was named.

• The Black Church organ, one of the largest in South-Eastern Europe,
with its 4,000 tubes, is highly appreciated for its sonority.
THE FORTRESS OF BRASOV
• The fortress of Brasov
was built between the
13th and 17th centuries
from the need to defend

Tartars invasion. In the

bastions, joined by strong
defense walls.

frequent visits here, there are kept small wooden benches in black and writing tablets and an
abacus
