I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the class, the students will be able to:
 Determine the tone and mood in a text read;
 use tone and mood to understand and analyze
the meaning of the text; and
 demonstrate the value of teamwork by actively participating
in group activities.

2. Motivation - Game - Charade!


Mechanics of the game:
1. The class will be divided into three groups.
2. Each group will choose one representative.
3. The representatives will be given strips of paper containing descriptive
words like happy, surprise, scared, brave, strong, etc. and they have to act
it out in 60 seconds.
4. The members of the group will guess what emotion word the
representatives had acted out.
5. The group who will have the most number of correct guesses will be the
winner.

3. Development of the Lesson

A. Activity - Silent Reading

VANILLA CANDLES

Ahnika sat on the old, lumpy couch crying. She could let it all out here,
alone in her mother’s small, quiet house in Samal, Davao del Norte. The familiar
walls were covered in rose pink wallpaper. Goldie, her mother’s fish, seemed to
stare sympathetically at Ahnika through the fishbowl sitting on the counter. The
smell of her mother’s vanilla candles comforted her aching heart. Suddenly,
sweet memories of her mother filled her thoughts.

- With the same group the students will do silent reading.

B. Analysis
- The students will answer the following questions:
1. What are the words used by the author to describe Aknika's
feeling in the passage?
2. How did you feel after reading the passage?
- The students will make a chart to present their answers in a 1/4
manila paper.
- One representative from the group will explain their answers.
