Famous Children Poem

Shel Silverstein's (1930-1999) comedic
genius is demonstrated in this short, funny
poem that is sure to bring a smile to children
of all ages and adults as well.

Bonus pleasure points: If you're sharing this

poem with a child be sure to catch the look
on their face as they figure out why
snowballs don't make good pets!

I love the humor, innocence and whimsy of this poem.

Snowball
By Shel Silverstein More Shel Silverstein
I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first it wet the bed.

It's a delight to read this poem. So humorous, so
lovely! Shel Silverstein is one of my favorite poets.
His poems are enjoyed not only by children but
also by adults who have secretly retained a child's
heart within them.

Poignantly written, this poem enhances our relived
childhood memories. A snowball capturing the vivid
imagination of an innocent mind, all enraptured
through an adult mindset.

I love the humor, innocence and whimsy of this
poem. But there's more here than meets the eye. If
you look a bit deeper, you can see how we
sometimes don't properly interpret our
experiences, simply because we don't truly
understand their nature or that of their source. The
child does not understand the transient nature of
snow and that it is destined to melt... so too we do
not understand the nature of G-d and the things
that we may experience in our lives.

I love Shel Silverstein. I have 4 of his books that
I've bought for my kids' birthdays. I think I enjoy
the poems more than my kids as I have to beg
them to choose to read from it for bedtime. :-)
