I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude

first, to God for giving me enough knowledge and strength to

perform my tasks. Second, I would also like to thank the people

behind this Work Immersion Program. Third, to those people

who made this work immersion possible especially to my Work

Immersion Teacher, Mr. Valdez for being hands-on and Ms.

Bernas for always updating us. Fourth, I’m thanking my

co-work immersionist for helping me accomplished my works.

Last but of course not the least, I would like to thank all the

staffs and employees at my workplace, Barangay 168 for

showing me what a good workplace must be. To the Secretariat

Department specially Mrs. Manansala for trusting me. Mrs.

Del Rosario for giving us permission to do work immersion at

the Barangay, thank you.

I know that when the day comes, this work experience

would definitely help me a lot. Thank you is not enough to

express how grateful I am. Once again, thank you to all of you!
It would be my honor to dedicate this compilation of

my work experience to my family for always supporting me

mentally, physically, financially and spiritually. They were

the reason why I’m always alive when I’m at the workplace.

They are my stress relievers when it’s getting hard at the

Barangay. They let me decide on my own because they have

trust in me and as an exchange, I always strive hard on the

things I’m doing.

I also dedicate this portfolio to those people who

doesn’t believe on their selves that they can’t accomplished

Work Immersion. I hope this will help you to strive even

I was named Alyssandra Dizon Neri. A joyful, positive thinker, straight

forward but caring and loving person. I maybe harsh on things and situations

sometimes but believe me, I am not that kind of person you were thinking.

I am living with my mother, Analee and father, Florencio together with

my two brothers, Lorenzo and Von Ceasar. We live at Deparo, Caloocan City.

When it comes to household chores, I am definitely good at it. I can do well

with discipline. But still, my family says again and again that I’m lazy.

Back then until now, I am a consistent honor student. I received a lot of

recognition from different academic fields and I also received some certificates

from different organizations and seminars I attended.

In my life, it is not always smooth and success. I am like any other people

around that has faced dilemmas and failures. I may not be a failure in

academics but I admit, I failed to be a good and respectful child of my parents.

Other than that, I failed to be the “perfect” kind of friend of my old

acquaintances. But still, I managed to deal and accept it.

For the past years of my life spending it in studying, being one of the

Master’s of Ceremony in events helped me to develop myself for who I am today.

It is one of the moments I’ll never forget. Through being an MC, I am able to face

my fear of speaking in front of people back then, but now, it’s already my

strength. I am grateful because of that opportunity.

At this moment, I envision myself to be a successful yet humble kind of

person who will do good things that can rebuild the humanity that is fading

nowadays.
DID YOU KNOW THAT…. ?
Brgy. 168 Deparo of Caloocan City was
established in 1853. It was privilege to be part of
the 18 Barangays in Caloocan City in 1854.
However, in 1877, there was a need to lessen the
number of Barrios in Caloocan and that Barangay
Deparo was part of those who will be removed.
When the Americans took over the leadership in
Caloocan, the Barangay Deparo was joined with
Bagumbong who happened to be the official capital
of Caloocan.

Because of this colonization of the Americans,


the citizens were saddened because they value
independence, in addition to this when they were
joined with Bagumbong it brought them despair.
Respected individuals led by Escolastico Domingo,
father of Deparo have gathered.

They suggested to separate Deparo from


Bagumbong but was refused in the end. Although in
1948, the request was finally granted.

Official leadership began in 1950. It was headed


by Pedro Nieto (1950-1956), as the “Tinyente del
Baryo”. He was followed by Anselmo Domingo, the
only begotten son of the father of Deparo. The two had
a competitions as they continually fight for the
position. However, in 1963, Aguedo Ramos took the
position (1963-1967).

RULES AND REGULATIONS
Rules in Deparo Area

1.People in Deparo are not allowed to smoke in public places

even in government offices.

2.Drinking alcohol In public places is strictly prohibited.

3.Minors are only allowed to be out until 10 pm unless

accompanied by an adult 4.Selling alcohol to minors Is not

allowed 5.Disposal of waste in the wrong places is prohibited.

6.The use of videoke system and other sound amplifying

equipment would be allowed only from 8 am until 10 pm.

Rules and Regulations inside the Barangay

1.Working hours should be 8-10 hours 2.Brgy.staff should always

wear their ID's.

3.The public servants should entertain their visitors.

4. clearance and permit can be obtain in just 30 minutes while

the cedula lasts only 2 to 3 minutes.

5.On the first day of the week of each month, everyone should be

there and complete.

6.Each member should have their own work.

7.Their uniform should be orange shirt depicting their Barangay.


FUNCTIONS OF THE OFFICES

Chief Officials and Offices


There shall be in each barangay a punong barangay, seven (7) sangguniang
barangay members, the sangguniang kabataan chairman, a barangay secretary, and a
barangay treasurer.There shall also be in every barangay a lupong tagapamayapa. The
sangguniang barangay may form community brigades and create such other positions
or offices as may be deemed necessary to carry out the purposes of the barangay
government in accordance with the needs of public service, subject to the budgetary
limitations on personal services.

Office of the Kagawad


As the chief executive of the barangay government, shall exercise such powers
and perform such duties and functions. For efficient, effective and economical
governance, the purpose of which is the general welfare of the barangay and its
inhabitants the punong barangay shall: Enforce all laws and ordinances which are
applicable within the barangay; Negotiate, enter into, and sign contracts for and in
behalf of the barangay, upon authorization of the sangguniang barangay; Maintain
public order in the barangay and, in pursuance thereof, assist the city or municipal
mayor and the sanggunian members in the performance of their duties and functions;
Call and preside over the sessions of the sangguniang barangay and the barangay
assembly, and vote only to break a tie; (5) Upon approval by a majority of all the
members of the sangguniang barangay, appoint or replace the barangay treasurer, the
barangay secretary, and other appointive barangay officials; Organize and lead an
emergency group whenever the same may be necessary for the maintenance of peace
and order or on occasions of emergency or calamity within the barangay; In
coordination with the barangay development council, prepare the annual executive and
supplemental budgets of the barangay.

Office of the Barangay Tanod


The legislative body of the barangay, shall be composed of the punong
barangay as presiding officer, and the seven (7) regular sangguniang barangay
members elected at large and sangguniang kabataan chairman, as members. Assist in
the establishment, organization, and promotion of cooperative enterprises that will
improve the economic condition and well-being of the residents; Enact ordinances as
may be necessary to discharge the responsibilities conferred upon it by law or
ordinance and to promote the general welfare of the inhabitants therein; Assist the
punong barangay in the discharge of his duties and functions; Act as peace officers in
the maintenance of public order and safety; Perform such other duties and functions
as the punong barangay may delegate.
Office of the Secretary
The barangay secretary shall be appointed by the punong barangay with
the concurrence of the majority of all the sangguniang barangay members. The
appointment of the barangay secretary shall not be subject to attestation by the
Civil Service Commission. The barangay secretary shall: Keep custody of all
records of the sangguniang barangay and the barangay assembly meetings;
Prepare and keep the minutes of all meetings of the sangguniang barangay and the
barangay assembly; Prepare a list of members of the barangay assembly, and have
the same posted in conspicuous places within the barangay; Assist in the
preparation of all necessary forms for the conduct of barangay elections,
initiatives, referenda or plebiscites, in coordination with the Comelec; Assist the
municipal civil registrar in the registration of births, deaths, and marriages; Keep an
updated record of all inhabitants of the barangay containing the following items of
information: name, address, place and date of birth, sex, civil status, citizenship,
occupation, and such other items of information as may be prescribed by law or
ordinances; Submit a report on the actual number of barangay residents as often as
may be required by the sangguniang barangay; and cralaw Exercise such other
powers and perform such other duties and functions as may be prescribed by law
or ordinance.

Office of the Treasurer


The barangay treasurer shall be appointed by the punong barangay with the
concurrence of the majority of all the sangguniang barangay members. The
barangay treasurer shall: Keep custody of barangay funds and properties; Collect
and issue official receipts for taxes, fees, contributions, monies, materials, and all
other resources accruing to the barangay treasury and deposit the same in the
account of the barangay as provided. Disburse funds in accordance with the
financial procedures provided in the code; Submit to the punong barangay a
statement covering the actual and estimates of income and expenditures for the
preceding and ensuing calendar years, respectively, subject to the provisions;
Render a written accounting report of all barangay funds and property under his
custody at the end of each calendar year, and ensure that such report shall be
made available to the members of the barangay assembly and other government
agencies concerned; Certify as to the availability of funds whenever necessary;
Plan and attend to the rural postal circuit within his jurisdiction; Exercise such other
powers and perform such other duties and functions as may be prescribed by law
or ordinance.
Revenue Department.- The barangay treasurer shall be bonded as the one
who will help the revenue officials in regulating it’s functions. The treasurer shall:
Enact tax and revenue ordinances, subject to the limitations imposed in the code;
Enact annual and supplemental budgets in accordance with the provisions of the
code; Authorize the barangay treasurer to make direct purchases in an amount not
exceeding One thousand pesos (P1,000.00) at any one time for the ordinary and
essential administrative needs of the barangay; Provide compensation, reasonable
allowances or per diems as well as travel expenses for sangguniang barangay
members and other barangay officials, subject to the budgetary limitations Provide
for the delivery of basic services; Prescribe fines in amounts not exceeding One
thousand pesos (P1,000.00) for violation of barangay ordinances.
Office of the Lupong Tagapamayapa.
There is hereby created in each barangay a lupong
tagapamayapa, hereinafter referred to as the lupon, composed of the
punong barangay as chairman and ten (10) to twenty (20) members.
The lupon shall be constituted every three (3) years in the manner
provided herein.The lupon shall: Exercise administrative supervision
over the conciliation panels provided herein; Meet regularly once a
month to provide a forum for exchange of ideas among its members
and the public on matters relevant to the amicable settlement of
disputes, and to enable various conciliation panel members to share
with one another their observations and experiences in effecting
speedy resolution of disputes; Exercise such other powers and
perform such other duties and functions as may be prescribed by law
or ordinance. Office of the Sangguniang Kabataan official who, during
his term of office, shall have passed the age of twenty-one (21) years
shall be allowed to serve the remaining portion of the term for which
he was elected. The sangguniang kabataan shall: Promulgate
resolutions necessary to carry out the objectives of the youth in the
barangay in accordance with the applicable provisions of this Code;
Initiate programs designed to enhance the social, political, economic,
cultural, intellectual, moral, spiritual, and physical development of the
members; Hold fund-raising activities, the proceeds of which shall be
tax-exempt and shall accrue to the general fund of the sangguniang
kabataan: Provided, however, That in the appropriation thereof, the
specific purpose for which such activity has been held shall be first
satisfied; Create such bodies or committees as it may deem necessary
to effectively carry out its programs and activities; Submit annual and
end-of-term reports to the sangguniang barangay on their projects
and activities for the survival and development of the youth in the
barangay ; Consult and coordinate with all youth organizations in the
barangay for policy formulation and program implementation;
Coordinate with the appropriate national agency for the
implementation of youth development projects and programs at the
national level; Exercise such other powers and perform such other
duties and functions as the sangguniang barangay may determine or
delegate; and cralaw Exercise such other powers and perform such
other duties and functions as may be prescribed by law or ordinance

DAYS DESCRIPTION
DAY 1 We started our immersion with the flag
ceremony. After that, we went inside to
attend the mass. The staffs and employees
were complete from Chairman down to the
SK Kagawad. Then, the assistant secretary
looked for our resume so we went to the
printing shop to produce a copy. After, he
took a photo of us for our ID.
DAY 2 I thought we will just sit outside the office
doing nothing but later on, they gave us a
task which is the manual counting of
census. We counted how many population,
household, male, female and senior citizen
does each house in the whole Barangay 168
or simply, Deparo has.

DAY 3 On this day, we just continue the manual


counting of census. But compared on the
first day of counting, we count faster
because we have our own techniques when
counting.

DAY 4 In just three days, we finished the manual


counting of census. Honestly, we finished it
right after our lunch break so we have time
to have some talk and seize the remaining
time before going home. We did not expect to
finish it within just three days.
DAY 5 Christmas vibes is in the Barangay! They
ask us to help them decorate their office
since we finished the census early. We
arranged the garlands, ribbons and
Christmas balls. It’s so cute because we also
used fake candies for design.
DAY 6 So, it’s our second week in Barangay. We
don’t have much task to do so we helped the
staffs arranged the chairs for the parents
who entered the Alternative Learning
System offered by the Barangay.

DAY 7 On this day, a new set of census from


different Barangays of Deparo came. It is
not so many that’s why Secretary Rose let
let me do it on my own. She told me that day
that I will be the one who is the new
in-charge for the upcoming census. Also,
this day is the day when Sir Valdez, visited
us. We took photos and talk for a while. It is
nice seeing him in our Barangay.
DAY 8 From this day, I was the only immersionist
from MMC left. My other co-work
immersionist has completed their duty. I
was absent for three consecutive days
because there was an emergency in our
house. To continue my duty, I encoded the
census we counted last week.
DAY 9 This day, I photocopied a lot of documents
from the office of our chairman. It was so
many like a bucket of papers. I was standing
for so long. It was very tiring but I managed
to finish it on time given to me. After that, I
insert papers on the machine and arranged
the papers I photocopied.

DAY 10 After 80 hours, I was able to complete my


duty. Before this moment, I photocopied a
bunch of documents; encoded the remaining
census and made a certificate of indigency
for the last time. I was able to experience all
those things for just eighty hours.
Work Immersion is a program under the k-12 curriculum. It
was established for us, senior high school students to have a prior
experience and knowledge with accordance to the strand we’re in.
For the eighty hours I’d spent being a work immersionist, I
can say that it is hard. It’s very challenging because honestly, eighty
hours is just a short period of time compared to those other
immersionist I know. But then, it is enough for me because I can say
that I have learned a lot.
As a student, my perspective when working is that, it’s just
happy go lucky and easy. But base on my experience, it’s not what
I’m imagining and expecting. It is the reality. Reality where I
encounter different kinds of people around. And dealing with
different people is not simple. You need to adjust. Not them because
not all the people will please you.
Through work immersion, I have realized that money is just
a money. You are not working just for money. You need to work
because it is your responsibility and with my job as an immersionist
at the Barangay, it is my duty to help people first without expecting
in return.
The most unforgettable moment of mine while I’m on the
immersion is when I needed to rush back home in the middle of my
work because my mother got stroke. I’m on a panicked so I chatted
Pia (Immersionist also) to bring ambulance with her. Fortunately,
because of my connection at the Barangay, my mother was sent
hurridly at the hospital.
That day, we did not
do anything much so
to vanish the

and it was so fun.
We even call it a
competition.

Immersionist inside the Secretariat Office at Barangay Hall. I did some tasks
