The World Health Organization or simply WHO is an agency of the United Nations concerned
about the health around the world. The organization was established on April 7, 1948 and
headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. They have regional offices around the world.

The World Health Organization has several representative offices around the world. Some of
them are, Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (Africa Region), Copenhagen, Denmark (Europe), New
Delhi, India (South-East Asia), Cairo Egypt (Eastern Mediterranean), Manila Philippines (Western
Pacific), and Washington DC USA (The Americas).

Finance, Sponsors and Contributors

The World Health Organization is largely contributed by the United States ($110 million), Japan
($58 million), Germany ($37 million), United Kingdom ($31 million), and France ($31 million). A
good number of external donors and private partners helps WHO in fighting various diseases
around the world. About 473 NGOs are affiliated or had some form of partnership with WHO.
Rockefeller Foundation and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are some of them.

History of WHO

The main concern was the global health especially after World War 2. The global diplomats
discussed about forming the global level health organization to fight against health issues. The

constitution of World Health Organization was came into force  on April 7, 1948. This day is being
celebrated as “World Health Day” around the world.
