RESEARCH FORMAT

GENERAL FORMAT

 8.5’’ x 11’’ bond paper


 Double Space except Abstract and References
 1 inch margin to all sides except left with 1.5’’ margin
 Page i will start on the title page (upper right)
 Page number 1 will start on Chapter 1 (upper right)
 Past tense on Chapter 2 Methodology (scope)
 Make different documents for easy page numbering
 Justify

Title Page

 A title should summarize the main idea of the manuscript

 It should be a concise statement of the main topic

 It should be fully explanatory when standing alone

 Its main function is to inform readers about the study

 Words like method and results do not normally appear in the title

 Terms like A Study of or An Experimental Investigation of must also be avoided to use

 Spell out all terms and avoid using abbreviation

 Its length is no more than 12 words

 The title should be typed in uppercase and lowercase letters, centered between the left
and right margins, and positioned in the upper half of the page.

 The manuscript should have a running head


ABSTRACT

 The abstract is the brief summary of the paper, allowing the readers to quickly review the
main points and purpose of the study
 IMRAD – Introduction Method Results and Discussion
 The abstract should be between 150 to 250 words
 Should be written in single space
 Keywords should be written in italicized form and it should be 3 to 7 words

Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

 Minimum of 2-3 pages with proper APA citation.


 Introduce the problem. The body of a manuscript opens with an introduction that
presents the specific problem under study
 This portion portrays the problem situation that justifies the conduct of the study. It
should clearly discuss the nature of the problem that the study is attempting to address.
 Answers the question why is this problem important as well as the justification of the
study
 Include the purpose of the study in the last paragraph

Review of Related Literature

 Minimum of 5-10 pages with proper APA citation


 Define and clarify the problem
 Summarize previous investigations to inform the reader of the state of research
 This portion shows the foreign and local literature studies gathered from library and
web research that are related to the study and can be used in supporting the research study
and research outputs

Synthesis

 This portion explains how the present study differs or related with other research studies
conducted and answers why study needs to be conducted

Theoretical Framework

 Minimum of 2-3 pages with proper APA citation


 This part explains the theoretical foundation of the study
 Gives and explains the theory which has some connection to the research study. (one
theory only)
 Include the framework of the theory

Conceptual Framework

 Minimum of 2-3 pages with proper APA citation


 Identifies and describes the variables in the study to show the conceptual framework of
the study
 The framework shows the organization, order and direction of your research study

Statement of the Problem

 This part states the general and the specific problem of the study.
 There should be a general statement of the whole problem followed by the specific
questions or sub problems into which the general problem is broken up.

Format:

Generally, the study aims to … (insert the purpose of the study)

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. (write the first statement of the problem)


2. (write the second statement of the problem)
3. (write the third statement of the problem)

Scope and Delimitation of the Study

 Scope is the coverage of the study.


 Limitation is the weakness of the study that needs to be defended.
 This part explains the possible constraints that may arise during the conduct of the study.
 This part also explains the total scope or coverage of the study in terms of what, where,
when, how and who.

Significance of the Study

 Who will benefit from the study?


 What is impact of the study to the stakeholders?
 This portion describes and explains to whom and why this study is important
Definition of Terms

 This presents the key terms that are used in the study
 The terms should be defined conceptually and operationally
 Minimum of 10 words to be defined
 The terms must be arranged alphabetically

Chapter 2

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

 This portion identifies and explains the research design used in the study with proper
APA citation
 Refers to the research method/s being employed on the study

Participants

 Refers to the actual respondents of the study.


 Indicate who participated in the study, how many, and how they were selected (sampling
technique)
 Include any details which are relevant to the study (e.g., gender, age, etc.)

Instrument

 Refers to the tools being that will be used in the study.


 This part explains the research instrument that can be used to gather the data.
 Describes how the instrument will be constructed
 Describes how the instrument established its validity and reliability

Data Collection Procedures

 Shows the flow of the data collection through a flowchart.


 Describe how the data will be collected and analyzed
Statistical Analysis

 Describes the statistical tool/s that can be used in analyzing the data gathered
 With proper APA citation

Chapter 3

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

 The findings of each statement of the problem of the study will be properly presented in
the form of tables, charts figures and the likes
 Each table that will be presented will have proper discussion after
 The result should be supported by a related literature

Chapter 4

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

 The researchers should summarize the findings of each statement of the problem
 Tables, charts and figures are NOT allowed in this portion
 Past tense
Conclusion

 The number of conclusion is based on the number of statement of the problem

Recommendation

 The recommendation should be based on the conclusion drawn


 The number of the recommendation is based on the significance of the study

REFERENCES

 The word REFERENCES should be written in Caps Lock Form and it should be on the
center of the page
 Should be in separate page from Chapter 4.
 Use APA format
 Single space
