Manufacturing Process I Exercise

1. There are at least two types of fusion arc welding, consumable electrode arc welding
and non-consumable arc welding. Explain at least two examples of each type!
2. Mention some factors that you have to consider in welding processes, especially for
fusion arc welding! Give some reasons for each factor of what you mentioned!
3. Explain types of flame in Oxyfuel Gas-Welding!
4. Consider a case in which a welding operation is being performed with voltage of 20
Volts and current of 55 A, and the welding speed is 5 mm/s. Estimate the cross-
sectional weld bead area produced in those processes if the workpieces and the
electrode made of :
a. Aluminum
b. Nickel
c. Titanium
(assume the efficiency of welding processes is 80%)
5. Assume that two 5-mm thick aluminum are being welded at current of 60 A and the
voltage of 20 volts. The weld lenght is about 50 mm, and the welding process need
about 20 s of time. Determine mass of the weld bead produced if the heat required
to melt 1 g of aluminum is about 500 J. (assume the efficiency of the process is 75%)
