Job Description

“Community Health Systems” is one of the leading operators of general acute


care hospitals. The organization's affiliates own, operate, or lease more than
100 hospitals in 20 states, with an aggregate of approximately 21,000
licensed beds. The consolidated organization owns and leases community
hospitals that offer quality, cost-effective healthcare including a range of
inpatient medical and surgical services, outpatient treatment and skilled
nursing care. In over 60 percent of the markets served, CHS-affiliated
hospitals are the sole provider of healthcare services.

Community Health Systems seeks a Litigation Counsel for its Franklin,


headquarters’ In-House Legal team.

Summary: Manages outside non-insured litigation and related litigation


processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may
be assigned.

 Work with and assist the Senior Vice President and Chief Litigation
Counsel on various litigation matters;
 Manage outside, non-insured litigation, including, without limitation,
case strategy, supervision of outside counsel, legal process.
 Interprets laws, rulings, and regulations.
 Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or
prosecuting lawsuit.
 Manage written and electronic discovery.
 Prepare and/or review business contracts and administer other legal
matters.

Qualifications

Language Ability

Ability to read, analyzes, and edits court filings and other litigation-related
documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or
complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and
presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.

Math Ability

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and


statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of


intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism
(formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of


word processing software, spreadsheet software, Microsoft Outlook and e-
discovery collection and review software.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must
be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of
this job.
Education/Experience

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and licensed to practice law or eligible to waive in
or sit for the bar in the State of Tennessee; two to five years’ experience
handling complex litigation and associated matters. Experience in and
understanding of various aspects of healthcare law and litigation and
complex e-discovery issues required.

Job Description/ Responsibilities

The incumbent will carry out a range of functions and tasks in support of the
AIL legal team under the direct supervision of Director, Legal.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of legal contracts with


business partners, trade-vendors, customers etc.
Working with Regulatory affairs, Government affairs, Quality, Public affairs
and other functions of the company to resolve legal issues.
Drafting of legal notices, reply to customer complaints, representations and
replies for statutory authorities requiring legal advice and assistance etc.
Supporting stakeholders in implementing ethics and compliance policy of the
company.
Co-ordination with Advocates and Counsels in connection with company
litigation.
Preparation and review of notice, reply, application, petition and written
statements etc. Review progress of on-going cases and provide regular
updates to seniors
Anticipate legal support needs of the business and help define and drive the
strategic
plans of the Business.
Advising Marketing and Medical functions on product labeling, marketing and
ethical promotion.
Performing any other task assigned by the supervisor

Job Specifications

Skill, Education & Experience


LL.B./ LL.M. from a reputed university
Post qualification experience of 12 - 15 years’

Work Experience On Pharmaceutical, Hospitals Laws Would Be Preferred

Working experience in a reputed law firm for couple of years is desirable


Good academic background is required
Proficiency in English (both written & verbal) as well as excellent
communication skills are a must
