Minority Advisement Program Prepares for Annual DIF

Conference
STATESBORO, Ga., March 29, 2019 – The Minority Advisement Program is

preparing to attend the annual Diversity, Inclusion, and Fairness Conference on

Saturday, March 30 in the Russell Union Ballroom. This event will give sponsors

in the program an opportunity to talk about issues related to the three tenets of

DIF.

As a part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Minority Advisement

Program constantly stretches for diversity, inclusion, and fairness in their

organization. The DIF conference is required, especially for sponsors who are

planning on returning to the program in Fall 2019. The conference will take place

from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sponsors will have the ability to hear from keynote speakers, participate

in a variety of workshops and more. “I really hope our sponsors will take

advantage of the opportunity, so they will see what it is like to deal with issues

like this in our community,” said Chaverle Noel, graduate assistant of the

Minority Advisement Program. “Sponsors will know what it is like to deal with

these issues relating to diversity, inclusion, and fairness as they engage in

conversation.”

The Minority Advisement Program was established in 1986 to prepare

minorities for success. The organization seeks to provide incoming freshman and

transfer students with a smooth transition to college. Each student, also referred to

as a MAPee/mentee, is paired with an upperclassman at Georgia Southern

University. The upperclassman, also known as a MAP Sponsor or mentor, is there

to guide mentees and make sure that they are aware of the campus resources and

opportunities available to them. Mentors in this program also serve as a resource

because they know more about campus happenings (or ways to get involved) than

the potential first year student.
