Needs School’, Chennai, I was really nervous. I had so many questions like How would I handle the kids? Would they understand what I teach? I was terrified! But when I started my work there as a trainee it was a completely different experience. The main reason why I really like volunteering is that I received much more than what I gave to the place. I had to face a lot of challenges which actually strengthen me. Working with a “People With Determination” has had a profound impact on me as a person. I learnt an important life lesson of being grateful for what I have and also developed an essential quality of being patient. My school and my teachers have been a great inspiration and encouraged me always. I learnt that every act of kindness makes not only others happy but you as well. This opportunity gave me the strength I needed to take the next step towards my dream. I am grateful that I am a student of Our Own English High School, Sharjah.
Some really great qualities the we
don’t possess but special needs kids’ have are- 1.Their joy for life is contagious. Their smile could bring a smile on everyone’s face around them. 2.Underneath the surface, they find joy in the simplest things. I know we all need a reminder to slow down and enjoy life. These marvelous kids will remind you to do just that. They show that happiness isn’t limited. They find joy in almost everything! Leaving behind those lovely innocent souls was very painful for me. They were absolutely adorable. I’m looking forward for next year to meet them again. The entire experience has set me thinking and I wish to continue doing something for them. Indeed, the joy of giving has been immense! -Shreya Vijayanand Our Own English High School, Sharjah
