Uses of land forms

1. Plains, plateaus and valleys are used in farming and


agricultural purposes.
2. Landforms are used by geographers and cartographers in
developing topographic map.
3. Landforms, particularly volcanoes, are used and are key
sources of geothermal energy.
4. Landforms like plateaus, mountains, hills, valleys and
volcanoes are used as tourist spots and recreation activities
such as rock climbing, trekking, hiking and etc.
5. Plains are used to make roads as means of transport.
6. Mountains are sources of big trees that are used as raw
materials in building homes, furniture and paper products.

Importance of land forms

1. Landforms provide habitat to all living things.


2. Plateaus are important because they serve as storage of
minerals that led to the development of various industries.
3. Mountains are important because many rivers originate from
here and these rivers are able to sustain human and other life
forms.
4. Plains provide good grazing for livestock and are important
for building houses, schools and other infrastructures.
5. Mountainous areas have lower temperatures. They serve as
climatic divide between two adjoining regions.
6. The mountain ranges do act as natural political frontiers
between countries and protect them from invasions to some
extent.
7. The rich agricultural resources especially of alluvial plains
have helped in the growth of agro based industries. This has
given employment to millions of people and has registered a
marked increase in the national production and per capita
income.
