Patient belonged to this last stage of Freud’s psychosexual theory of personality development and begins in puberty, Genital Stage (Puberty to adult). It is a time of adolescent sexual experimentation , the successful resolution of which is settling down in a loving one-to-one relationship with another person in our 20’s. sexual instinct is directed heterosexual pleasure like during the phallic stage. For Freud, the proper outlet of the sexual instinct in adult was through heterosexual intercourse. Fixation and conflict may prevent this with the consequence that sexual perversions may develop.
Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory
Patient belonged to Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development sixth stage (Intimacy Vs. Isolation). This stage takes place during young adulthood between the ages of approximately 19 and 40. During this period, the major conflict centers on forming intimate, loving relatiionships with other people. Success at this stage leads to fulfilling relationships. Failure on the other hand, can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation.
