INTRODUCTION

Tardiness is the aspect of being late when students don’t arrive in school
on time. They're convicted as tardiness. Due to the irreversible increase of late,
we pursue ourselves to find more the negative effects of tardiness. It is become
somehow a habit of a student even their house is near to the school and it will
cause a problem to them.

They will miss all of the discussions. A student may not perform well in
class because of being tardiness. These are the possible negative effects of
tardiness; First, Tardiness disorganizes and causes distraction to the individual
and the whole class. Second, Lateness inhibits the process of achieving the
goals of the school. Third, Tardiness leads to absenteeism and general failure in
life. Fourth, Tardiness can also affect the student’s school performance. And last,
Students may not be able to catch on the lesson because they are always late for
school.

Lateness causes students to feel disconnected from school, leading to

behavioural problems and dropouts. Students who are often late for school are
also more likely to be fired from work. When students are late, they produce also
a negative impact on their teachers and their classmates.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This year, the number of late students attending school does not decrease
that it needs some further actions and possible solution. That is why we motivate
ourselves to do this topic that we are working for as we observed in our
surroundings, because the problem may get worst if we do nothing.

2
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Due increasing number of tardiness of the selected grade 10 students, we
conduct a research about it. We may not disqualify this kind of problem, yet we
want to help our fellow students. We will think of some things that will enlighten
their minds to realize that being tardy may affect their studies.

Our purpose of the study is to be aware and to learn that tardiness has a
great negative impact to our studies and we must prevent having tardiness.
Although this is just a basic research but it can have a big contribution to our
school and also to our fellow students. We did this to convey knowledge and to
find out what negative effects it can have on us.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims how being tardiness affect the students in their studies. Here
is the question this study wants to answer:

1. What are the possible negative effects of tardiness in the school

performances of selected grade 10 students?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will significant to the following:

Students: This study will help students to be responsible and disciplined.

Parents: It will help them to discover what thing they will do to make their
children not to feel tardy every day

Teachers: The benefits of this study will help teachers to continue their
lesson without getting interrupted.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

3
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Foreign Literature

Tardiness among students gets its personal bad backlashes.

According to Nakpodia and Dafiaghor (2011) emphasized that lateness or
tardiness constitutes none only this issue of this past students but it
involves the surrounding people. A student coming late in class distracts
the rest of the students and disrupts the flow of the teacher’s discussion. It
is even a burden to the student/s whom the late students ask for what to
catch up with. The rest of the effects given by Nakpodia and Dafiaghor are
about the welfare of the whole school, its productivity and revenue.
Knowing the possible effects of lateness or tardiness, it is necessary for
solutions to be executed.

Local Literature

According to the National Initiative Attendance Works (2015)

missing just 10% of the school year in early grades causes many students
to struggle in primary school, and lateness in later grades is associated
with increased failure dropout rates. Fortunately, parents can help to
prevent tardiness from becoming frequent enough to negatively impact
their child’s school life.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

The focus of our study is precisely facing the negative effects of tardiness
in studies of selected grade 10 students of Pulong Sta Cruz National High
School. 30 to 40 respondents were aimlessly selected from the month of
November to December 2019. We are hoping that they will now be responsible in
their studies.

conclude that the negative effects of tardiness can lead students to miss their
teacher's discussion which leads to failure in their school performances.

RECOMMENDATION

We highly recommend to students to practice time management. They must learn

how to balance their time so they can catch up with their teacher’s discussion and
to avoid tardiness.
