What is a Real ID?


A new type of identification available to Minnesotans that meets extra federal requirements. 

Who needs a Real ID?


Anyone 18 or older looking to board a domestic flight or visit a federal facility starting in
October 2020. An enhanced driver's license or passport are also acceptable. Travelers
under 18 do not need the new ID.

What do I need to bring to get one?


ONE document to prove identity and date of birth.
Unexpired passport
Certified copy of a birth certificate
Cerfitcate of citizenship
ONE document proving Social Security number
Social Security Card
W2 form showing taxes withheld from a paycheck for the current year
Pay stub with name, address and Social Security number
TWO documents proving Minnesota Residency
Unexpired Minnesota driver's license
Credit card or bank account statement less than 90 days old
Federal or state income tax return from the most recent filing year
Utility bill. *NOTE: Utility bill will not be accepted if two different names are on the
bill
IF you changed names, you must bring proof of every name change over time.
A pre-application feature can be found online to reduce wait times at DVS.

How much does a Real ID cost?


It costs the same as a standard driver's license or ID card.

Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) office Bloomington: 9930 Logan Ave. S
Visit dps.mn.gov to find other DVS offices. Richfield: 6700 Portland Ave. S
