    Hunter's Choice is an education program that informs deer hunters about using non-toxic ammunition to protect wildlife and human health. The program will hold workshops to demonstrate characteristics of different ammunition options and provide information in hunter safety classes. Lead ammunition fragments scatter beyond an animal's wound, making it impossible to remove all lead fragments during processing, which can then be consumed by eagles and other scavenging wildlife, poisoning them. In 2019, 95 eagles were treated at the Raptor Center - 15% for sub-toxic lead levels, 62% for toxic levels, and 25% for very toxic levels from consuming lead fragments in gut piles and other animals.

    Hunter's Choice will promote voluntary change


    through a series of workshops that allow hunters
    to experience different characteristics of
    ammunition options.Inforrration also will be
    added to Youth Firearm Safety classes and
    hunter education courses.
