STEAM LEARNING DEVELOPMENT IN CURRICULUM OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION “PERMATA

HATI” (THE JEWEL OF HEART) FOSTERED BY THE ACEH PROVINCE FAMILY WELFARE
EMPOWERMENT MOBILIZATION TEAM.

Abstract

Early childhood education is an effort aimed at children from birth to age 7 through the provision of
educational stimulus to help the child's physical and spiritual growth and development so that
children have readiness to enter further education levels. Early childhood is a golden opportunity for
children to learn while playing, so it is called the golden age. Therefore, the early development of
children should be optimized, especially for the generation of Early Childhood Education “permata
hati” (The Jewel of Heart) fostered by the Aceh Province Family Welfare Empowerment mobilization
team. As an alignment and support of educational programs, through the introduction of STEAM
(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum that can stimulate children's
cognitive intelligence. The STEAM learning has been applied in a simple manner which is carried out
indoor and outdoor which is carried out by all Early Childhood Education students together with the
Teacher and also supported by the school committee. The STEAM approach is an introduction to
basic and simple science that is very suitable for the age criteria of children. As a science process, all
students can carry out activities to explore, observe, conduct simple experiments. In order for
learning to run smoothly and fun, without obstacles, teachers usually make rules of the game, each
child also learns to be orderly and also has a turn to conduct planned science learning experiments.
Based on observational studies, the development of STEAM learning is able to provide basic
competencies in simple science related to daily life and can develop cognitive intelligence in children
directly. Cognitive development is the main aspect that can influence the development of other
aspects. Learning experiences obtained by children are observing, imitating, experimenting
repeatedly, increasing the sense of motivation and responsibility, developing children's sense of
imagination and competition. The development of stem learning education needs to continue to be
collaborated and implemented at Early Childhood Education “permata hati” (The Jewel of Heart)
fostered by the Aceh Province Family Welfare Empowerment mobilization team.
