After acclimating your ear to the intervals used in these well-known melodies, it
becomes apparent that these movements occur in all music and that endless combina-
tions of rhythms, harmonies, timbres, and playing techniques are used to vary and dis~
guise the same intervallic motion over and over. This perspective will improve your abil-
ity to recognize intervals in all music. As you learn more about scale construction and
theory, be sure to explore these examples as part of your fingerboard ear-training. Also,
try to determine how each melody functions in relation to its key center.
