Diversity & Inclusion in Early Childhood 2019

1. INTRODUCTION
Diversity & Inclusion in Early Childhood is an event organised in conjunction with Disability
Month, whereby expertise from the 3 major fields (Special Needs Education, Early Childhood
Education, and Guidance and Counselling), will be invited to be speakers of a forum and share
their insights regarding their respective fields. In accordance to that, the president of a
non-governmental organization, “Cerebral Palsy Malaysia” (Gabungan Anak-Anak Palsi
Serebrum, a.k.a. GAPS) - Puan Rafidah Rafizah Ahmad - is one of the speakers. This forum will
be moderated by Professor Dr. Azrin Esmady Ariffin.

Students from the related major courses: (a) Introduction to Children with Special Needs, (b)
Collaborative Relationships in Early Childhood: Home, School and Community, (c) Diversity,
Counselling and the Helping Relationship, and (d) Mental Health will be opening booths to bring
social awareness to the SEGi community. A fundraising will also be conducted at the booths, and
the proceeds will be contributed to Cerebral Palsy Malaysia. This event also aims to benefit the
students involved in the event as they will have a further understanding on the current issues
faced in the aforementioned areas.

2. OBJECTIVES
This event aims:
1. To create social awareness regarding disabilities in the SEGi community.
2. To collaborate with social workers in the community and gain insight from their
experiences.
3. To allow students to get an idea of the current issues faced in the 3 major fields: Special
Needs Education, Early Childhood Education, and Guidance and Counselling.
4. To raise funds for the Cerebral Palsy Organization in support of those in need.
5. To advocate for the children who have disabilities.

7. AGENDA
The awareness campaign has two major events; fundraising of two weeks long, April 8th to April
19th, followed by a Forum speaking event on April 24th, 2019. The fundraising will be
conducted at the cafeteria and dictator stage, while the forum would be held at the SEGi lobby.

The purpose of the fundraising is to collect funds and contribute it to “Cerebral Palsy Malaysia”
organization. To maximize our sale target, there will be a donation box placed at the booths for
SEGi students or other interested parties.

The details of the fundraising event as well as the sale target will be finalized on ​Wednesday,
April 3rd, 2019, Wednesday​.

Three speakers will be invited to participate in a forum that will be moderated by Professor Dr.
Azrin Esmady Ariffin. Students from the 3 major courses and the staff of the Faculty of
Education will be going to participate in the forum as well. The purpose of this forum is to share
awareness and insights regarding disabilities along with the current issues faced in the related
education fields.
7. MARKETING PLAN
1. Social Media
a. To post videos, and photos on social media frequently to attract students.
b. To create an event post on Facebook and Instagram and invite SEGi students.

2. Bookmark Invitation
a. To be distributed to all students, lecturers and staff of Faculty of Education.

3. Banners, brochures
a. Banners and brochures will be printed and displayed in the vicinity of SEGi
University to promote the event.
