HDC Job Announcement: Communications & Outreach Director

Overview of Position:
The House Democratic Caucus (HDC) is looking to hire a Communications & Outreach Director
to assist the Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director on implementing comprehensive
strategies for all HDC policy and communications needs. The person hired would work closely
with HDC staff on a wide range of issues.

The position currently has an open start date. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with
experience. A stipend to cover health care is provided above salary.

Summary of the Texas HDC


The Texas House Democratic Caucus, composed of all Democrats in the Texas House, serves as
the group’s membership services and logistical arm, and works to support House Democrats
with communications, policy, and legal resources. Chaired by Rep. Chris Turner (D – Grand
Prairie), the Caucus is focused on fighting for real solutions for all Texans.

Roles and Responsibilities:


● Supporting HDC members and staff with any communications and policy efforts
● Managing HDC email communications and social media channels
● Drafting, editing, and publishing press materials
● Assist with constituent issues, and help manage and assist with day to day operations
● Communicating with advocacy groups, allies, and stakeholders to ensure Caucus
members are up-to-date with the most accurate information

Qualifications:
● Ability to work with a team and be flexible with a wide-range of projects;
● Strong communication skills, especially written;
● Analytical and organizational skills;
● Prior experience with the Texas legislature and/or comparable experience working with
an advocacy or public policy organization on issues before the Texas legislature
