The University of Zambia wishes to invite admission applications for the 2020 and 2021
intakes from suitably qualified candidates in the Schools and programmes listed below.
Candidates are advised to indicate on the application form the intake they wish to be
considered for admission.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS
AGRICULTURAL “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
SCIENCES Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR Three (3) “A” Level passes in Chemistry,
Biology, Physics or Mathematics OR A diploma in Agricultural Sciences or related studies from an institution
affiliated to the University of Zambia OR A diploma classified as credit or better
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Agricultural Sciences
will be required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at either second or third year level
to the School of Agricultural Sciences.
NOTE:
(a) Bachelor of Education-Secondary (Mathematics and Science) (Bedmas) and Diploma in ICT’s are In-
Service programmes.
(b) Applicants with relevant Degrees or Diplomas may be admitted at 2nd or 3rd year level.

ENGINEERING “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR At least three (3) ‘A’ level passes (grade of
C) with at least a pass of grade ‘B’ in either Mathematics or Physics OR at least a credit or better in Diploma
(Technologist) or higher qualification in a relevant technical field.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Engineering will be
required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Levels or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at second year level to the School
of Engineering.
(c) Applicants with City and Guilds qualifications, the Diploma is taken to mean level 4 (Full Technological
Certificate, Full Technological Diploma or Advanced Technician Diploma).
(d) Applicants with a Diploma (with Credit or better) – Technologist or higher qualification in a relevant
technical may be admitted at second year (2) level. One (1) year of proven and relevant working experience
after graduation with a Diploma is required. A letter from the employer showing proof of the relevant
working experience must be attached.
HEALTH “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
SCIENCES Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR Bachelor of Science Degree /Diploma in
related field recognized by Senate.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Health Sciences will
be required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at either second or third year level
to the School of Health Sciences and may be required to attend oral interviews.
NOTE:
Applicants wishing to be admitted to the Degree Programme in Public Relations and Advertising and Media and
Journalism Studies should satisfy the following:
Group 1 Group 2
English Language Any three (3) subjects of which one must be an Art
English Literature
LAW “O” levels in the following subjects:
Group 1 Group 2
English Language Any four(4) subjects of which one must be an Art
OR a first Degree in any discipline from a recognized University; OR a Professional qualification equivalent to a
Degree (e.g. ACCA); OR 3 passes at Cambridge ‘A’ level or the equivalent; OR a Diploma in law from the
University of Zambia or from the National Institute of Public Administration. Diplomas in law from foreign
institutions will be considered on their respective merits on a case by case basis; OR a Certificate in Legal Studies
(CLS) from the University of Zambia.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants wishing to pursue a Certificate in Legal Studies must have “O” Levels in English Language
and any four subjects.
(b) Applicants with “O” Level qualifications who are admitted to the School of Law will be required to take
first year courses in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
(c) Applicants with first Degrees in any discipline from a recognized University; OR a Professional
qualification equivalent to a Degree (e.g. ACCA); OR; 3 passes at Cambridge ‘A’ level or the equivalent;
OR a Diploma in law from the University of Zambia or from the National Institute of Public
Administration. Diplomas in law from foreign institutions will be considered on their respective merits on
a case by case basis; OR a Certificate in Legal Studies (CLS) from the University of Zambia are admitted
at second year level.
(d) Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission to the programme. Admission to
the programme is subject to the availability of places.

MEDICINE “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR Biologicals Sciences, Biology/Chemistry
,Microbiology, Biochemistry, Zoology, Botany, Bachelor of Science degree with education with Biology major or
Biology/Chemistry: Biomedical Sciences, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Environmental Health, Nursing, Clinical
Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Human Nutrition, Radiology or Radiography, or any other
related Health Science degree which includes courses in Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry (Inorganic, Organic and
Analytical) and Biochemistry OR transfer from other Medical Schools (Both Local and International)
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Medicine will be
required to take first and second year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with relevant Bachelor’s Degrees will be admitted at 3rd year level in the School of Medicine.
(c) Transfers from other Medical Schools may enter at 3rd or 5th year level. Applicants already enrolled in the
MBChB programme at other Medical Schools (both local and International) but with transfer to the
University of Zambia, School of Medicine should apply through the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
NURSING
SCIENCES “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR Advanced levels (“A levels”) with Passes
in Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics OR Certificate in Nursing(Enrolled Nurse, Mental Health
Nursing) with valid practicing license OR Diploma in (Registered Nursing, Registered Theatre Nurse, Registered
Paediatrics Nurse, Registered Clinical Care Nurse) with valid practicing license.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Nursing Sciences
will be required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at either second, third and fourth
year level to the School of Nursing Sciences as follows:
MINES “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR “A”–Levels in Mathematics, Chemistry and
Physics from recognized institutions admitted at 2nd year level. Candidates with a diploma in either Geology,
Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or any related field from a recognized institution are
eligible to apply for direct entry into the School of Mines Degree Programmes OR Readmission/Change of
programmes within the University of Zambia

Re-admission and/or change of programmes from other Schools will be considered for applicants who cleared first
year courses in the School of Natural Sciences / Education (with Sciences) at the University of Zambia and Copper
belt University (CBU).
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Mines will be required
to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at either second or third year level
to the School of Mines.
NATURAL “O” Levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
SCIENCES Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject.
PUBLIC HEALTH “O” levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR a diploma in Environmental Health or
related studies from a recognized institution or college affiliated to the University of Zambia.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Public Health will
be required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at either second or third year level
to the School of Public Health.
VETERINARY “O” levels in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics OR English Language, Science,
MEDICINE Biology (or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject OR diploma in agriculture with Animal Science
major or Biomedical Science Major or related qualifications with at least 2 years post graduate experience OR a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Sciences or related qualifications with at least 2 years post graduate
experience OR An applicant without post graduation experience shall be admitted directly to the school if he/she
obtained a Diploma with Merit, majoring in Animal Sciences or Biomedical Sciences or related qualification OR
Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences degree with credit, majoring in Animal Science.
NOTE:
(a) Applicants with only “O” Level qualifications who will be admitted to the School of Veterinary Medicine
will be required to take first year courses in the School of Natural Sciences.
(b) Applicants with “A” Level or Diploma qualifications may be admitted at second year level to the School
of Veterinary Medicine as follows:
“A” Level passes in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Sciences and Management or Physics
Diploma in agriculture with Animal Science major or related qualifications with at least 2 years
post graduate experience.
Bachelor of Science degree; with at least 2 years post graduate experience.
An applicant without post-graduation experience shall be admitted directly to the school if he/she
obtained a Diploma with Merit, majoring in Animal Sciences or Biomedical Sciences or related
qualification.
(c) Applicants with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences degree with credit, majoring in Animal
Science are admitted at third (3) year level.
GRADUATE Five (5) “O” levels in English Language and any four subjects

NOTE:
Please note that meeting the minimum entry requirements to any of these programmes does not guarantee
admission to the programme. Admission to the programme is provisional and subject to the availability of
places and payment of fees.
Application forms can be obtained from Customer Care, UNZA Great East Road campus, upon payment of
a non-refundable application fee of K150.00 for Zambians or USD 60.00 for non-Zambians. Payment for
applications forms should be made either at Standard Chartered Bank, Account Number 0100110273800 or
First National Bank Zambia (FNB), Account Number 62607694371. The account name is UNZA Registrars
Department. Application forms can also be downloaded from the official UNZA website: www.unza.zm or
obtained from the University of Zambia Provincial Centres Offices. In this case the application fee still has
to be made at the bank.
