Sun Pharmaceuticals was founded by Mr. Dilip Shanghvi in 1983 in Vapi, Gujarat, with five drugs for the
treatment of psychiatric disorders. It is currently the largest prescription drug manufacturer and an
industry leader in ophthalmology, gastroenterology, nephrology, psychiatry, neurology, heart disease
and orthopaedics.
Ranbaxy's acquisition in 2014 has contributed to it being India's biggest pharmaceutical company, the
largest Indian pharmaceutical company in the United States and the fifth largest generic drug company
worldwide.
Growth Story
42 production sites located across 6 continents, R&D centres worldwide and multi-cultural workers with
over 50 nationalities help Sun Pharma's international presence, which includes over 100 emerging
markets and six Western European countries. This global reach is a direct result of the company’s
inorganic growth strategy.
