BC 04 : Qualitative Research – Theory and Practice

Assignment (weightage 100% or 100 marks)


( Part I : Classroom Presentation of assignment =50% weightage.
Part II : Written Submission of assignment = 50% weightage)

Questions:
(a) Select a research issue/problem/topic that can best be researched by following Qualitative
Research Methods.

(b) Justify/Explain how qualitative research methods are more appropriate to conduct research on
the selected research issue/problem/topic

(c) Devclop a detailed research proposal on the selected research issue/problem/topic focusing on
the following aspects :(I) Introduction/Background (II) Rationale of the study (III) Research
Questions and Objectives of the study (IV) Research Design/Method – Ethnography, Case study,
Grounded theory, Participatory Action Research (V) Selection of cases/participants(Sampling) (VI)
Methods of Data Collection (VII) Ethical Issues (VIII) Data Analysis plan

Instructions:
I. Rules pertaining to plagiarism apply to this assignment. Copying from other sources
(including the assignments of your classmates) is not allowed.Provide the list of references
at the end of your proposal

II. The words limit : 5000 words. And Each M.Phil scholar will be given 30 minutes for the
presntation of proposal in the classroom (20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for
discussion-questions/comments,feedback)

III.Classroom presentation of proposal will be held on :

5th September 2019 (from 9.00 am to 11.00 am i.e., (9) 9.00 am to 9.30 am, (10) 9.30 am to 10.00
am (11) 10.00 am to 10.30 am (12) 10.30 am to 11.00 am)

6th September 2019 (9.00 am to 1.00 pm i.e., (13)9.00 am to 9.30 am (14) 9.30 am to 10.00 am (15)
10.00 am to 10.30 am (16) 10.30 am to 11.00 am (17) 11.00am to 11.30 am (18) 11.30 am to 12.00
noon (19) 12.00 noon to 12.30 pm (20) 12.30 pm to 1.00 pm).

IV. Write your roll number on the first page of the assignment and submit the hard copy of the
assignment on or before 12th September 2019 to Ms.Roopa/Ms.Vidya at the Doctoral
Students Office (DSO).
