ACTIVITY NO. 2
1.1 Kinematic Equations
1. Isaac throws an apple straight up from 1.0 m above the ground, reaching a maximum height of
35 meters. Neglecting air resistance, what is the ball’s velocity when it hits the ground?
2. Two kittens are on opposite sides of a field, 250 m apart. Kitten A runs at a constant speed of
25 m/s due east on a collision course with kitten B, which is traveling west at 12 m/s. How
much time elapses before the two kittens collide?
3. A driver of a car going 90 km/hr suddenly sees the lights of a barrier 40.0 m ahead. It takes the driver
0.75 s before he applies the breaks. Once he does begin to break, he decelerates at a rate of 10 m/s 2.
a. Does he hit the barrier?
b. What would be the maximum speed at which the car could travel and NOT hit the barrier 40 m
ahead?
4. Draw the acceleration-time graph of the given velocity-time graph.

5. Sonic, the hedgehog, rolls up a slope at 9.4 m/s. After 3.0 s, he is rolling down at 7.4 m/s. How
far up the hill is he at this time?
6. A man is standing on the edge of a 20.0 m high cliff. He throws a rock vertically with an initial
velocity of 10.0 m/s.
a. How high does the rock go?
b. How long does it take to reach its max height?
7.

The velocity time graph for a shuttle bus

moving along a straight path is shown.
a. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is zero.

b. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is positive.

c. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is negative.

d. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is constant.

e. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is increasing.

f. Identify the time intervals during which the velocity of the shuttle bus is decreasing.

g. Identify the time intervals during which the acceleration of the shuttle bus is zero.

h. Identify the time intervals during which the acceleration of the shuttle bus is positive.

i. Identify the time intervals during which the acceleration of the shuttle bus is negative.

j. Identify the time intervals during which the shuttle bus is speeding up.

k. Identify the time intervals during which the shuttle bus is slowing down.

l. Identify the time intervals during which the shuttle bus is moving in the positive direction.

m. Identify the time intervals during which the shuttle bus is moving in the negative direction.
