3.1 Overview
Input module FDCI222 In-/Output module
FDCIO222/FDCIO224

Input module FDCI222

The input module FDCI222 has 4 inputs. With the inputs the status can be
monitored (e.g. whether a door is closed).

In-/Output module FDCIO222/FDCIO224

The input/output module FDCIO222 has 4 outputs and 4 inputs. With the outputs,
control functions can be performed. With the inputs, statuses can be monitored.

The inputs and outputs can be operated independently. However, it is also possible
to monitor the control of the outputs by means of the input. In this case, an input is
assigned to the output. A control function can be performed on the output (e.g.
Close door). The correct execution of the control can be monitored on the input
(e.g. door is closed).

The difference between FDCIO222 and FDCIO224 is in the circuitry for the
monitoring of the inputs. FDCIO224 meets the requirements on the VdS
extinguishing interface.

Properties
The modules have the following properties:
z Communication via FDnet (detector line)
z Potential-free outputs
z Configuration possibilities
z Built-in line disconnection switch
z No auxiliary supply required
z Status indicators (LED)
z Different mounting possibilities

3.2 Setup
The modules consist of the module carrier, the printed circuit board and the cover.
The printed circuit board includes the LEDs. The LEDs indicate the states of the
inputs and outputs as well as the operating condition. The cover of the printed
circuit board is transparent, so that the state of the LEDs is visible even when the
housing is closed.
To protect the modules from environmental influences, two different housing types
are available.

3.3.2 Inputs

3.3.2.1 Function

With the inputs the status can be monitored e.g. whether a door is closed. Each
input can be configured as follows:
– Status input or danger input
– Lead monitoring for 'Open line' or 'Open line and short circuit'
– active, when contact is:
– open (normally closed NC)
– closed (normally open NO)
– Filter time (0 ... 240 sec)

Status inputs and danger inputs

Danger inputs trigger alarm as soon as the input is activated. Status inputs trigger
a status change as soon as they are activated.

Line monitoring and circuitry

The input lines are monitored for 'Open line' or 'Open line and short circuit'. To
make this possible, resistors must be connected to the input lines. When a short
circuit of an open line occurs on one of the input lines, a fault message is
transmitted to the control unit.
The inputs must be potential-free.

Filter time
The statuses of the inputs are polled several times per hour. To recognize a status
change, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
– Activation at minimum for the duration of the filter time;
– deactivation at minimum for the duration of the filter time, but at maximum for 5
seconds.
The filter time can be used for the suppression of disturbing pulses. Status
changes and faults are indicated by the LEDs on the module and are transmitted to
the control unit.

3.3.2.2 Circuit

To be considered:
z The input lines must be provided with resistors.
z The resistors must be connected at the end of the line.
z Only monitoring resistors with a tolerance of 1 % must be used.
z The admissible circuitry depends on the module that is used.
z The configuration of the module must correspond to the actual circuitry.

3.3.3 Outputs (only with FDCIO222/FDCIO224)

This section describes the function mode when controls are not monitored. The
following section describes how the controls are monitored by the inputs.
Control functions can be performed with the outputs (e.g. Close door). The outputs
are potential-free relay contacts.

Configuration
The following configurations are possible:
z The contact is active, when:
– it is closed;
– it is open.
z After activating the contact remains:
– permanently active
– active only for a certain period of time. How long the contact remains active
can also be configured (pulse duration)..
z Failsafe behaviour when the FDnet detector line is current-free, e.g. in degraded
mode (e.g. in case of a failure of the processor in the control panel).
The error behavior defines the position of the contact in case of an error.
– Contact remains in the same position as before the error
– Contact is activated in case of an error
– Contact is deactivated in case of an error
– reacts on the signal 'Emergency operation horn' in the same way as other
sounders on the FDnet (only possible with devices with ES ≥30 in FS20)
The status of the outputs (active / not active) may not be polled on the control
panel, only switched.

3.3.5 Diagnosis levels

The devices largely monitor their function autonomously. The following diagnosis
levels are taken from the different control measuring processes:
z Normal
z Fault

Details see table below.

When a fatal error occurs, which makes the proper function of the device
impossible, a fault message is signalled. To remedy the cause, additional
information is available in the device. This information may be displayed by e.g. the
detector exchanger and tester FDUD29x (details see Operation Detector
exchanger and tester, doc. nos. 007227 and 009718).

3.3.6 Degraded mode in FDnet

When the main processor of the fire control panel fails, the control panel is in
degraded mode. Depending on the control panel type, the fire control panel can
continue to perform the most important alarming and signalling functions in
degraded mode.

Behaviour in degraded mode on control panels supporting degraded

operation
z Alarming is still ensured in degraded mode. However, in degraded mode only
collective alarming is possible. This means that in case of alarm, it is possible to
identify the detector line in account but not the exact location of the device
triggering alarm.
z When the outputs are used for controls (e.g. fire controls), the outputs take on
the configured default position in case of a communication failure or current-free
FDnet (only devices with ES ≥30).

The degraded operation on the FDnet is not equally supported by all control
panels. During project planning, the information in the document 'List of
compatibility' (doc. no. 008331) and the control panel documentation in account is
mandatory.

4.4 Defining the output configuration

Electric shock!
Voltages up to 250VAC may occur on the terminals. Always use a housing (e.g.
FDCH291 or FDCH292) with screw connection when applying the following
DANGER
voltages to the outputs:
z >60 VDC (ripple <10 % of average value)
z >30 VAC (peak value max. 42.4V)

When configuring the outputs, please proceed as follows:

1. Determine in which position the contact is active. The contact can be active
when it is:
– closed (normally open NO)
– open (normally closed NC)
2. Define how long the control shall remain active after activation. The control can
be:
– permanently active;
– active only for a certain period of time. How long the contact remains active
can be configured as well (pulse duration). The following settings are
possible:
– 1s
– 2s
– 3s
– 5s
– 10 s
– 15 s
– 20 s
3. Determine the type of monitoring (equal or reversed polarity).
4. Determine the behavior of the control in case of error (e.g. open line to the
control panel).
The following configurations are possible for the behavior in case of a failure
(default positions):
– Control remains the same as before the error
– Control is actived
– Control is deactivated
– reacts on the signal 'Emergency operation horn' in the same way as other
sounders on the FDnet (only possible with devices with ES ≥30 in FS20)

4.5 Filling out the configuration sheet

1. Copy out the configuration sheet. You will find it in the appendix.
2. Fill out the configuration sheet.
3. Hand over copies of the completed configuration sheet to the installer and the
service technician.

5 Installation

Electric shock!
Voltages up to 250VAC may occur on the terminals. Always use a housing (e.g.

DANGER
voltages to the outputs:
z >60 VDC (ripple <10 % of average value)
z >30 VAC (peak value max. 42.4V)

The proceeding during the installation depends on whether the module is installed
with or without housing.
The connection diagram can be found at the end of this section.

5.1 Installation with housing

In case of an installation with housing, please proceed as follows:
1. Break out the cable entries.
2. Mount the housing on an even surface. To make sure that the LEDs are visible
at any time, the housing lid is transparent. Consider a suitable installation
position to make sure that the LEDs are visible at any time when in operation.
3. Insert the cables. If necessary, fix the cables with the screwed cable glands M20
or use a different cable entry.
4. If necessary, press the auxiliary terminal for earthing into the housing base.
Connect the screening to these auxiliary terminals. The screening must not
touch any extrinsic earthing potentials or metal parts in the device.
5. Install the module in the housing.
6. Connect the cable to the corresponding terminals (see connection diagram).
Connect only one wire to each terminal.
7. Close the housing by engaging the lid. If necessary, use the screws included in
the delivery with housing type FDCH291. With the housing with seal (FDCH292)
the enclosed screws must always be used..

5.2 Installation without housing

In case of an installation without housing, please proceed as follows:
1. Mount the module on an even surface or on a top hat rail, using two mounting
feet (see figure). To make sure that the LEDs are visible at any time, the housing
lid is transparent. Consider a suitable installation position to make sure that the
LEDs are visible at any time when in operation.
2. Connect the cables to the terminals in account. Connect only one wire to each
terminal.
3. Fix the cables to the modules by means of cable ties.

5.3 Connection
Connect only one wire to each terminal.

Electric shock!
In operation, up to 230 VAC may be applied to the output lines of the in-
DANGER
put/output modules FDCIO222 and FDCIO224. During installation work, no
voltage must be applied to the lines!

Maintenance / Troubleshooting

7 Maintenance / Troubleshooting
7.1 Status retrieval
The modules are equipped with the MC-Link (Maintenance and Commissioning
Link). With the detector exchanger and tester FDUD29x, the following data can be
polled with this link:
z Status of inputs
z Status of outputs
z Inadmissible configuration
z Deviation of the line or termination resistor from the initial values
z Error list
z Status register

7.2 Performance check

The devices are automatically subjected to a performance check during the self-
test. Nevertheless, it is necessary to check the devices on site at regular intervals.

Recommendation:
– Check the devices every year.
– Replace strongly soiled or damaged devices.
No other special maintenance work is necessary.

7.3 Test mode

For service purposes, the modules can be switched to test mode. In this mode, the
relays are not activated when activating the outputs. Only the LEDs are activated.
For more detailed information, please refer to the control unit documentation.
