The health and safety of our residents and associates is our top priority. The
individual who has now been diagnosed as confirmed positive for COVID-19 after
transport to and testing at Memorial Hospital is a Camellia at Deerwood
independent living resident. This means that he and his family retain control over
and responsibility for his care decisions. While we offer assisted living support at our
community, the resident in question is not an assisted living resident. When the
resident’s family requested that a Camellia at Deerwood associate place a 911 call
on their behalf, our associate dutifully communicated the symptoms which the
family had provided, ranging from gastrointestinal to respiratory symptoms, and our
associate followed all safety protocols in doing so. We understand that first
responders and medical professionals are trained in how to respond to various
scenarios, and we take our charge seriously to assist them by sharing any and all
available information. That was done in this case.

In addition to complying with all CDC guidelines related to COVID-19, Camellia at

Deerwood has taken additional steps by proactively sharing information with
residents, family members, and associates via written, in person, and digital
communication. This includes notification that one of our residents had tested
presumptive positive for the virus. Camellia at Deerwood has also taken the
precautionary step of limiting community access only to residents, associates and
direct care and service providers for the residents.

Our team continues to closely monitor residents and associates for any signs of the
virus. We appreciate the guidance and support from local and state health providers
and have been fully cooperating with the Florida Department of Health as well as
the Agency for Health Care Administration (ACHA).

We understand interest in this story is high and we will continue to share as much
information as appropriate without compromising the health, safety, and privacy of
our residents and associates.

Sincerely,
Renea McGrath, Senior Executive Director
