1984 ​Summative Assessment

Prompt:​ After reading the novel ​1984 ​by George Orwell, you will answer the
following questions in your essay:

How can the novel ​1984 ​be compared to today? Does our country currently
have features of Orwell’s dystopia? Explain using moments from the text
and real life experiences.

Directions:​ Write an essay that answers the question above. This is an

argumentative essay, so there must be evidence that is cited. Your outline should
have already been completed and graded, use the feedback to help your writing!
Your essay must fully answer the question and have a total of four ways of
comparison. You have the freedom to choose these comparisons! These
comparisons must be backed up with supporting evidence. The evidence must
include examples in the text and real life experiences. You may use a total of 2
outside resources as long as they are cited correctly. Using outside resources is an
option.

Requirements:​ This essay must be 4-5 pages, this means it must be at the bottom
of page 4 or more to meet the page number requirement. It must be written in MLA
format with 12pt Times New Roman font. A works cited page and your outline
must also be attached to this essay.

Due:​ This assignment will be due a week after the outlines are returned. Therefore,
if outlines are returned on Monday 3/16 it will be due the following Monday 3/23.
It is worth 40 points so make sure you make revisions!
