I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of random variables and probability distributions.
B. Performance Standard The learner is able to apply an appropriate random variable for a given real-life problem (such as in decision making and games of
chances).
C. Learning Competencies/ At the end of this topic, students will be able to:
Objectives
Illustrates a random variable (discrete and continuous).
Distinguishes between a discrete and a continuous random variable.
II. CONTENT Module No. 1
Lesson No.1: Random Variable
Lesson No.2: Discrete and continuous Random Variable
III. LEARNING RESOURCES LCD projector; Laptop; Chalk
A. References Calaca, N.; Uy, C.;et al(2016). Statistics and Probability
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Book 1: P. 40-61
2. Learners Materials pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from
Learning Resource (LR) portal
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Teacher starts the class with a priming activity.
presenting the new lesson
Teacher will give examples and let the students answer the given questions.
Teacher will present this; basketball is a very famous sport in the country nowadays. Professional basketball teams scout players
from the amateur basketball leagues on either colleges or local communities. Basketball players are being accepted or draft pick
based on their performance in the game, and other relevant characteristics. If you are the manager of a basketball team, how would
you answer the following inquiries?
1. What information should be obtained to select the player your team needs?
2. How do you count or measure the information needed for making decision?
After the Priming Activity, processing will follow. Teacher will be asked some questions to the students.
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson 1. The teacher will ask the students: what is the difference between statistics and probability?
2. Let the students take note the statistics and probability characteristics and how it is vary to each other.
C. Presenting examples/ instances of The teacher will present the relevance of statistics and probability in terms of:
the new lesson
- Random variable
- Discrete random variable
- Continuous random variable
- Probability Mass function
1. Discussing new concepts and - The teacher will start the discussions by presenting slides about statistics and probability.
practicing new skills #1
- The teachers will show examples on how to classify the terms and how to solve it.
- Let the students identify the terms in relation to statistics and probability given the real life situations.
- Let them cite some real life examples related to discrete and continuous random variable.
2. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2
Classroom discussion can be in a form but not limited to the following:
-Group Discussion
-Individualized Instruction
-Group Activity
-Dyad
3. Developing mastery 1. After the discussion, the teacher will give worksheets to the students.
(Leads to Formative Assessment 3)
2. The teacher asks the students to divide the whole class into a 7 groups.
3. They will cite also some examples of random variables in discrete and continuous variables.
4. They will be given 20 minutes to finish the said activity and discuss it to their members.
5. Every group must choose one representative to present their output to the whole class.
Teacher will ask varied question after the presentation.
4. Finding practical application of
concepts and skills in daily
living
1. Integrating Christian Values - Accuracy is better than speed.
2. Making generalizations and After the sharing sessions, the teacher will ask the learners the following questions:
abstractions about the lesson
a. In general, how will you define statistics and probability?
b. When you do an experiment, how do you classify the discrete and continuous variable?
c. As a student, how statistics and probability applied to the other field of studies like economics, education and
medicine?
3. Evaluating learning
4.
Additional activities for
application or remediation
V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% on
the formative assessment
B. No of learners who require
Additional activities for remediation
C. Did he remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies
worked well? Why did these work?
