CHARACTER MANDALA

E X P O S I T O RY E SS AY E X P L A N AT I O N

Once your mandala has been completed, shift gears and write three
expository paragraphs about Harold in which you introduce him, explain
what dominate emotions he demonstrates and the corresponding colour
that you have chosen in your mandala to express these characteristics. Be

observations of Harold’s character and the significance of each colour’s
placement on the mandala. Remember to offer an appropriate conclusion to
your paragraph. Follow the structure provided.

E—EXPLAIN STATEMENT OF INTENT: Introduce Harold and his connection
to the chosen emotion (i.e. applying the universal statement
from above directly to Harold).
Q— (1ST) QUOTATION / PARAPHRASE / EVIDENCE: Find an example from
the text in which Harold displays the chosen emotion. Be as
specific as possible (i.e. use a direct quotation—include page #).
E—EXPLAIN QUOTATION & CONNECT BACK TO STATEMENT OF INTENT:

Q—(2ND) QUOTATION / PARAPHRASE / EVIDENCE: Find a second example

which further exemplifies Harold’s chosen emotion. Once again,
be as specific as possible (i.e. use a direct quotation—include
