CASE 2

PRESENTED PROBLEM
The Baranagay Matina Aplaya Purok Seaside 2, is needing cash assistance
to those household affected in the coastal road area.
COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT
Side 2 is surrounding with a large area of water. All of the families who lived in the
community are already given the right to live by Ptr. Jun Morales since he owns the
whole area. Most of the families who lives near in water would sometimes be afraid
whenever there is coastal road project in the area during the year 2018. Additional
factor that cause them to fear is that most of the house are affected by the coastal
project. The total number of the household was 95 and only 9 household are affected
to the coastal road project in the said area.
Despite of their risky location and being undocumented settler in the community,
they still lived their lives in peaceful and harmonious way. And even though they tend
to be having difficulties in the sense of their economic status, they do face the
challenge of life with great positiveness. The means of their transportation is
accessible to the people who live in that community. Especially the children who go
to school and other establishments like supermarket and market. In terms of the
peace and order and security no issues encountered.
Furthermore, the source of their income is fishing, vendor (sari-sari store), and
construction. Their occupation is on and off status. Thus, it cannot sustain the needs
of their family. This led to some wives searching extra income and doing part time
job in order to suffice their daily needs. Having insufficiency in their economic status
would lead to the vulnerability to their family poor health, education, drop-outs child
labor, and some underlying problems.
The scope of the community organizing was seven hundred (700) “estimated by the
leader of the community”, who are lived in seaside 2, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.
Most of the residents are having the health issue.
If the coastal road project will commence the affected families need to relocated or
giving them cash assistance by the City Government.
