Amitabh Bachchan, (born October 11, 1942, Allahabad,

India), Indian film actor, perhaps the most popular star

in the history of India’s cinema, known primarily for his
roles in action films. He is the son of the renowned
Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, attended Sherwood
College in Nainital and the University of Delhi. He
worked as a business executive in Calcutta (Kolkata)
and performed in theatre before embarking on a film
career.

Career Story:

Amitabh made his big-screen debut in Saat Hindustani (1969), and he received the first of his
numerous Filmfare Awards for his performance in Anand (1971). His first major success came
with Zanjeer (1973). A string of action films followed, including Deewar (1975), Sholay (1975),
and Don (1978). Nicknamed “Big B,” Bachchan personified a new type of action star in Indian
films, that of the “angry young man,” rather than the romantic hero. He was often compared
to Clint Eastwood—although, unlike Eastwood and other American action stars, Bachchan was
renowned for his versatility, and many of his roles showcased his talents at singing, dancing,
and comedy.

Bachchan entered politics at the encouragement of his friend Indian Prime Minister Rajiv
Gandhi. In 1984 he was elected to India’s parliament by an overwhelming majority, but he
resigned his seat in 1989 after being implicated in a bribery scandal that toppled Gandhi’s
government. For the latter film Bachchan won another National Film Award, and he also
received that honour for his performance in the drama Paa (2009), playing a boy who suffers
from an aging disease similar to progeria.

In addition, from 2000 to 2006 Bachchan hosted the television game show Kaun Banega
Crorepati, the Indian version of the American and British hit Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? His
easygoing nature and charisma helped make the show one of India’s top television programs.

Style Statement:
He is the perfect blend of classic, contemporary and quirky and the actor’s fashion game proves
time and again that age is just a number.

 Bell Bottoms: The legendary superstar surely brings back the 1960’s hippie movement
with his pair of swagger bell-bottoms. Daddy-long-legs found his solace in these pair of
bottoms and went on impressionable fashion trend for millions of his fans, giving us the
chance to rejoice its comeback.

 Quirky Eyewear: Often we tend to forget how glasses can make a powerful statement
and Big B never fails to remind us of this. When it comes to the Superstar, he firmly
believes there aren’t enough colours. Seen donning different frames frequently, he pulls
them off with such ease it makes us question if we can ever do the same. He surely
seems to be aware that he has a personality that can pull off absolutely anything.

 French Beard: When we think of Senior Bachchan, by default the French beard comes to
mind. It’s a style he carries off with flamboyance! The megastar had decided to keep his
French beard for life post the film “Aks”, which has clocked 18 years.

 Kurtas and Shawls: Who can carry Kurtis and shawls as gracefully as the ‘angry young
man’? He does not shy away from intricate embroidery, silk, and satin and knows how
to make it avant-garde and not tacky. Known to incline towards comfort than style, if
you’re someone who likes fashion to be on the same lines, then kurtis are just the outfit
to wear without compromising your style quotient. He carries off shawls effortlessly, not
just in plain beige but a variety of colours and detailed designs. His personal favourite
happens to be pashmina shawls.

 KBC Avatar: The actor is particularly known for wearing “band gala” suits for the show
Kaun Banega Crorepati. Rohit Bal, a famous Indian Designer was the designer associated
with his designing costume.
 Designer Shoes: The actor is fond of Christian Louboutin, a high end French fashion
footwear designer. His choices are mainly shoes with embroidered Libra horoscope
motifs or alphabet “B” embellished on velvet or suede. He is not afraid of carrying
creative shoe designs like that of the “Jhumka shoes” which he flaunted in the entire
event.

 Loves to be colourful: Mr. Bachchan from his early days loves to experiment with
colours. He can be seen in events and shows carrying amazingly indifferent pantone
coloured outfits either formal or casual.

And despite the global fame and success, Amitabh remains a man true to his Indian roots and
that’s what we love the most about him. He also actively endorses the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
and is the face of campaigns to free India of Polio, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis. He has also
been the brand ambassador for Maharashtra’s Tiger Conservation project and has backed a
PETA campaign.
