Assessment instructions To develop effective research skills in academia, it is vital

(clear, succinct, without repetition) that we understand how to summarise and paraphrase the
work of other scholars and to demonstrate an ability to
draw out their main ideas, citing them accurately.

The aim of this assessment is to support the development

of these skills as well as your overall academic writing skills.
The feedback you receive on this assessment will be used to
improve your performance and confidence in completing
Assessment 3 (the Annotated Bibliography)

This assessment is divided into four stages:

Stage 1: In Week 2 you will complete Studiosity’s online

diagnostic writing test in the classroom. This will provide an
indication of your current academic writing skills and areas
to improve. Please bring your laptop to the classroom in
Week2!

Stage 2: In Weeks 3-4 you will continue to use the ICMS

online support resources:
https://lms.icms.edu.au/course/view.php?id=969
as well as obtaining additional feedback on your draft
through Studiosity’s writing feedback service. You are also
welcome to approach ICMS Student Success Centre and ask

them to give you feedback.

services/learning-and-english-assistance

Stage 3: In Weeks 4-5 you will be writing your draft

Assignment 1. Very similar to what you did at Stage 1, read
the four articles listed below and summarise their authors'
main argument in 200-250 words each (altogether, approx.
1,000 words). This can be done in bullet-point format or
you may use various linking words to connect the four
paragraphs together:

The purpose of this exercise is to train your ability to

comprehend and summarise the gist of an academic text in
your own words with proper referencing.

Stage 4: At the end of Week 5, you must submit the

completed Short Written Assessment through Turnitin in
Moodle:

id=210241

See the MGT604 Moodle site for submission details and

deadline.
