TCE.M2-ME-PI-D-402 GUIDE FOR GRAPHICAL SYMBOLS FOR

PIPING AND INSTRUMENTATION DIAGRAMS AND SHEET 1 OF 19
HVAC DUCTING

1.0 SCOPE

1.1 This guide covers symbols to be used in Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
(P&I Ds) and Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) ducting for
chemical, industrial and power plants. The symbols are generally based on IS
3232 “Recommendations on Graphical Symbols for Process Flow Diagrams,
Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams”, ISA-S5.1 “American National Standard
on Instrumentation Symbols and Identification” and ISA-S5.3 “American
National Standard on Graphic Symbols for Distributed Control/Shared Display
Instrumentation, Logic and Computer Systems”.

1.2 If client or process collaborator has preference for any other system, the same
shall be followed for (P&I Ds) developed by TCE, for the sake of uniformity.

1.3 Symbols are divided into functional groups viz. equipment, piping and fittings,
valves and specialities, HVAC ducting, instrumentation and miscellaneous. List
of symbols covered under para 6.0 on Instrumentation is not exhaustive and ISA-
S5.1 and ISA-S5.3 may be referred for items not included.

1.4 This guide shall be used in conjunction with TCE.M10-OT-02 “Guide for
Drafting” and TCE.M6-IC-580-001 “Guide for Instrumenting the P&I/Flow
Diagram.
