DOCUMENT TITLE
1. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to present the detailed calculation report for
Depropaniser column. Depropaniser column is in unit 1600. The foundation system
comprises of reinforced concrete precast pile with a pile cap and pedestal.
This document also deals with material used, various assumptions and philosophies
adopted for the design of foundation system.
Halfaya Oil Field is situated in the southern part of Iraq, in the Missan
Governorate, 35 km southeast of Amarah city. The field is a NW-SE trending anticlinal
structure about 30 km long, 10 km wide, total area is about 288km². Location of Halfaya
Oil Field is shown in Figure 1.2.1.
DOCUMENT TITLE
The Halfaya field was discovered in 1976. PetroChina (Halfaya) has completed FCP
(First Commercial Production) construction of Phase 1, in which CPF1 was constructed
with designed capacity of 70,000+ BOPD. Some facilities have been upgraded since
Y2012 to produce 100,000 BOPD as max. capacity.
Central Processing Facilities No.2 (CPF2) with design capacity of 100,000BOPD and
relative facilities, which is defined as PHASE TWO and has been successfully put into
production in August 2014.
Central Processing Facilities No.3 (CPF3) with design capacity of 200,000BOPD and
relative facilities, which is defined as PHASE THREE and has been commissioned in
September 2018.
As part of Phase Four, CPF1 Upgrade is divided into three projects for ease of project
implementation. CPF1 Produced Water Treatment System Expansion Project, CPF1
Oil Treatment System Upgrade and CPF1 & CPF2 Gas Compression System
Upgrade.
A Gas Processing Plant (GPP) is planned to be built in the third quarter of 2021 to treat
all the associated gas from Halfaya Oil Field CPFs. GPP will be built nearby CPF2 in
Halfaya Oil Field. GPP is defined as PHASE THREE. Gas processing capacity of GPP
is 300 MMSCFD and 26000 BPD of condensate produced from all the CPFs.
DOCUMENT TITLE
At same time, Missan Oil Company (MOC) plan to gather the raw gas of Missan oil
field, Amarah oil field and Noor oil field, and transport to GPP to treatment in future.
Accordingly, GPP expansion in future should be considered. When GPP is expanded
to MGPP, Missan oil field, Noor oil field and Amarah oil field raw gas will be sent to
here, and the total capacity of three oil fields expected is 450MMSCFD.

4. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Precast piles with pile cap and pedestal for Deethaniser column foundation are
designed using Staad Foundation Advanced Connect edition (Bentley system). Basic
loads, Unfactored (allowable) load combinations and factored (Ultimate) load
combinations are as per Civil Structural and Architectural design basis – HFY3800-0000-
CIV-DB-0001. Design results from Staad foundation Advanced is attached in Appendix-
B.
As per the Geotechnical investigation report, the allowable bearing capacity of the
soil is very low, so, it is proposed to use pile foundation for the major equipment
foundations in this project.
4.1 Pile capacities
Tension Capacity
A Factor of Safety of 2.5 is recommended to apply to the ultimate pile resistance
capacities shown in the below table.
Pictorial explanation for the Leading row and Trailing rows is given below.
Reactions for Deethaniser Column for Wind, Seismic and operating conditions are
considered from Mechanical Data sheet and it is attached as reference in Appendix-
B.
ACI 318M-14 Building code requirements for structural concrete and commentary
ASCE 7 -05 Minimum design loads for buildings and other structures
Primary load and load combinations are considered as per Civil Structural and
Architectural design basis – HFY-3800-0000-CIV-DB-0001 and ASCE7-05. Vessel
reactions obtained from Mechanical are increased by 20% to cater any additional
loads in future.
7.1 Dead Load
Empty weight of the structure, Self-weight of pedestal and Self weight of pile cap are
considered as Dead loads.
Empty Shop Weight of Vessel = 673 x 1.2 = 808kN
7.2 Wind Load
The following are the wind load design parameters considered from Civil Structural
and Architectural design basis- HFY-3800-0000-CIV-DB-0001.
a) Basic Design Wind Speed = 40m/sec (3 Sec. Gust speed)
b) Exposure category = C
c) Topographic Factor (Kzt) = 1
d) Importance Factor (I) = 1.15
e) Directionality factor (kd) = 0.95
7.3 Seismic Load
The following are the Seismic load design parameters considered from Civil
Structural and Architectural design basis- HFY-3800-0000-CIV-DB-0001.

multiple load cases for which the same maximum depth is required, then the load case with
the highest axial load (absolute value) is considered as the critical load case.
