ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this study was to determine the language errors committed

by the fourth year English major students of the University of Mindanao in their

English written essays. Utilizing descriptive analysis method of research, and

validated questionnaire in data analysis with Frequency and Ranking as

statistical tools. The results suggested that since mechanical error type got the

most number of errors in the written essays, syllabus makers may provide more

time, activities and strategies that can improve the ability of the students to

punctuate, capitalize, and spell properly and correctly. In addition, teachers may

give more emphasis in giving more enrichment activities that would improve the

ability of the students to follow proper rules of subject-verb agreement, proper

usage of pluralisation of nouns, proper usage of articles or determiners; use

correct diction, pronoun, preposition, and; conveying their ideas in a sentence

through a complete thought. Furthermore, other researchers interested in the

study may explore or extend this study into a more profound and comprehensive

study. Moreover, syllabus enhancement may be generated based on the findings

of the study.

Keywords: Error Analysis, morphological errors, lexical errors, syntactic errors,

and mechanical errors.
