Pp 8 © Did you know? Zebra stripes! Zebra is a wild animal, that belongs to the horse family. It is an herbivorous animal and eats grass. We all know that zebra is distinguished for its beautiful black and white stripes on its body. Here is an unknown and amazing fact about Zebra stripes! Zebra stripe patterns are unique and just like fingerprints, no two zebra carry similar stripes. There also exists some zebras with brown and white stripes instead of black. 01 ‘3 Ice Cloud ‘. Liquids and gases often get mixed up together. Cold water often has air dissolved in it. When the water is frozen, the air forms bubbles that make the ice cloudy. Aldo il need 1. Two plastic food containers with lids 2. Water 3. Kettle 4. Refrigerator - First, half fill the container with cold tap water. Snap on the lid and give the container a good shake for approximately 30 seconds to mix air into it. Boil some water and leave it for some time to cool down. Pour it slowly down the side of the second container. Boiling the water first and then pouring it slowly like this reduces the amount of air it contains. € Close the lid of both the containers tightly and label them as ‘boiled’ and ‘tap’ respectively. Put both the containers in the | refrigerator and leave them | overnight. oH 3) “ts = iu a) 03 When the water has frozen solid, remove the container from the refrigerator and take Top water ice the ice out. The ice made from the ‘tap water’ contains lots of tiny bubbles, making it look cloudy in the middle. Boiled water ice Particles are closely packed in solid; moderately packed in liquid whereas, they are far apart in gas. ~ Liquid Layers MY Liquids can float or sink - two or more liquids that do not mix will separate out with the densest being at the bottom. Any objects dropped in it will sink until they meet a liquid more denser than themselves. 1. Long glass 2. Water 3. Cooking oil 4, Sugar Syrup } 5. Food colouring 6. Selection of small objects = Pour some water into the glass and add a few drops of food colouring, then pour in equal amounts of Water Z 7 Sugar Syrup and cooking oil. Water. , Leave the mixture to settle down for approximately 30 minutes. The Sugar \ Syrup at the bottom, the oil rises to the top, and the | coloured water sits in the middle. The objects sink and then float in the places where the liquids meet. Oil Water- Objects Sugar Syrup Objects sink until they meet a liquid that is denser than them. Density of an object is the amount of matter ] packed into the space it occupies. Oo a ys Dreams and/the Limitless: Magic of the Human Brain ag We've all had dreams during our sleep. Good, bad, scary, confusing ete are just some words we'd begin to use in-order to describe the kind of dreams we've had. However, nobody yet knows when, where and how our dreams start. Its always so random, isn’t it? All of a sudden, you may find yourself in this crowded city where people are just panicking and running away from a psycho monster. It’s almost like everything around you was real and you need to actually save your life and that of others as well. So you fight. You fight like a brave soldier. You're literally sweating with all the excitement and tension running through you as you attempt to bring down this psycho monster. However despite your valiant efforts, the monster begins to get the better of you. And just as it is about to kill you, out of fear, you will open your eyes and relieve yourself of the horror of undergoing death and then realize, all of it was just a dream. And if you may remember, you were sweating in the dream and as you wake up from the dream, you are sweating for real as well. You weren’t doing any activity apart from sleeping within the comforts of your air conditioner and fan. Surprising right? o@. Rotten Apple . 8 If you leave an apple for long enough, it will start to decay. Micro-organisms feed on the fruit and break it down into other substances, such as nitrogen compounds and carbon di- oxide. This is an irreversible reaction. You cannot un-rot an apple - but you can slow the rotting down. Atay rer need 1. One fresh apple 2. Knife 3. Four disposable plastic cups 4. Table salt 5. Epsom salts 6. Baking soda 7. Spoon Number the cups from 1 to 4. Cut the apple into four equal segments and put a segment into each cup. Go Cover the first three pieces of apple with = the different substances. Put a table salt into the cup 1, Epsom salt into cup 2, and baking soda into cup 3. Don’t add anything to cup 4; it will be your control cup. Store the cups in a cool dark place where they will not be disturbed for about a week. 5 o Gap After a week, compare the four segments. The control segment has probably gone muddy. The segment from cup | is probably the best preserved, as salt draws the moisture out of food and so the microorganisms that cause decay cannot thrive. iss Qo = Read the instructions and draw the angles in the space provided. Similarly, when air is hot its molecules are apart, so it takes Everything around us is matter. Matter is made up of atoms and molecules Se up more space and hence makes it lighter than cold air; Cold air has more molecules in the same amount of space. Because the hot air is lighter than the cold air, it floats on top of the cold air. Did you know that on Earth, the air that is down near the ground is warmer than air that is further up in the sky? Tt actually becornes colder as you go up in the sky, Once the hot air rises up, the cool air roves in and replaces the rising warm air. The air being lighter than the oil makes the puris float. 3) The Dead Sea has a lot of salt in it. Salt water is heavier (denser) than regular water. People can float in regular water, but since salt water is even denser, it is even easier to float in the Dead Sea. 4) The density of soap case is less than the density of water. So, it floats. The density of soap bar is more than the density of water.
