Rocky Mountaineer has been
forging new trails through the
Canadian Rockies and creating
unforgettable memories for our
more than two million guests.

1990
All aboard! Founded by Peter Armstrong,
Rocky Mountaineer departs on its inaugural
trip—a two-day, all-daylight journey through
Canada’s West and the Canadian Rockies.
1996
1995
The company launches its GoldLeaf Service,
featuring bi-level custom-built glass-dome
coaches with stunning panoramic views
from the upper level, and from the dining
room, and outdoor viewing platform on the
lower level. Rocky Mountaineer sets the record for
longest passenger train in Canadian history
(37 coaches). In 1999, it breaks its own
record with 41 coaches.

Rocky Mountaineer welcomes the 500,000th
guest and is recognized in The International
Railway Traveler magazine’s “10 Best Rail

2012
Rocky Mountaineer introduces its newest
level of service, SilverLeaf Service, on the
First Passage to the West route.
2016
Rainforest to Gold Rush becomes a
three-day rail journey. It travels between
Vancouver and Jasper via Whistler and
Quesnel, BC.
2007
Rocky Mountaineer wins Tourism British
Columbia’s “Foresight Sustainability Award”
for leadership and advocacy of sustainable
tourism.
2013
Rocky Mountaineer launches its new Coastal
Passage route, connecting Seattle, WA, to

Inside the vast untamed wilderness of
Banff National Park, you’ll find the town
of Banff. This picturesque resort area is

parks with postcard scenery, and wildlife
you’ll need to see to believe.
Just outside Banff is a phenomenal turquoise-

Your journey starts gently, moving through
the fertile farmland of the Fraser Valley and
the rolling hills of the Coast Mountains. As
your train gains altitude beyond the town
of Hope, the Fraser River narrows and the
waters run rampant. The train will slow to
fully appreciate Hell’s Gate, a narrow canyon
where the volume of water rushing through
is about three times greater than Niagara
Falls. At the midway point of your journey,
near your overnight stop in Kamloops, the
river valley remains lush and green while
sagebrush covers the surrounding desert-
like hills.
When you board the train after spending the
night in a charming Kamloops hotel, you will
follow the North Thompson River, slowing to
take in Pyramid Falls, a 91.5 metre (300 ft.)
cascade of whitewater. After giving you
time to pick up your jaw, the train continues
on to the Yellowhead Pass. Moving past
teal-green lakes, you’ll close in on Mount
Robson, the tallest peak in the Canadian
Rockies. It’s so high it has its own weather
system. The striking thing about this route
is that once you’ve seen what you think
is the most beautiful sight ever, something
even more stunning comes along. To cap it
all off, you’ll wind up in the alluring alpine
town of Jasper.
