Introduction

1. Introduction
The Instructor Operating Station (IOS) includes all the tools necessary to control the
simulator training environment and monitor all aspects of crew performance in the
simulator.

This manual provides information on the instructor station configuration, as well as


information related to the IOS pages.

Before browsing through this manual, please refer to the Safety User Guide for all
safety related information and the Startup and Shutdown Guide for information
related to the startup and shutdown of the simulator.

2. Instructor Station Configuration


The instructor station is designed to assist the instructor in monitoring all aspects of
crew performance in the simulator. The station incorporates the design features
necessary to tailor it to the operational needs of the user.

The basic hardware components of the IOS are explained in the following sub-
sections.

2.1 Instructor Seat


The instructor seat is a manually operated seat that includes a headrest, footrest,
armrests and a seat belt. Controls are provided for yaw, forward and aft movement as
well as to adjust height, backrest inclination and armrests in order to position the seat
for optimum visibility of both the instructor station and the cockpit area. Release the
fore/aft movement lever to lock the seat at its current position on the track.

Refer to the figure below for the location of a specific control.

Two observer seats are also provided, one identical to the instructor seat and the other
a non-adjustable folding jumpseat positioned at the rear of the flight compartment.

2.2 IOS Control Panel


The IOS control panel provides access to lighting controls, a button to stop the
motion system, an emergency power off button, a cockpit temperature control and an
oxygen mask. Three USB connections and an Ethernet connection for a laptop are
also provided.

The Motion Off button returns the simulator to its rest position in a controlled
manner, lowers the crew access platform, and deactivates the flight controls.

The Emergency Power Off button cuts off electrical power to the power cabinet,
shutting off the motion and control loading systems. The simulator returns to its rest
position in a controlled manner and the crew access platform lowers. For further
information on the Emergency Power Off button, please refer to the Safety User
Guide.

Further information on the digital temperature control can be found in the


manufacturer's user guide.

2.3 IOS LCDs


The touch-sensitive IOS LCDs, mounted on the main support column of the IOS
console, provide full operation of the IOS page controls and graphical displays.

The positioning of the LCDs may be adjusted in a variety of ways. Press and hold the
button on the handle of the lower LCD (shown in red in the figure below) to rotate the
LCDs in tandem. Release the button to lock the LCDs into place. Each LCD can also
be tilted forwards, backwards or sideways by firmly grasping the LCD and tilting it in
the desired direction.

2.4 IOS Push Knobs


The push knobs located on the IOS console, prevent loose objects from sliding off the
IOS when the simulator is in motion. Simply push down on a knob to raise it or lower
it.

2.5 IOS Audio Panel


The IOS audio panel allows the instructor to communicate with the crew over aircraft
communication systems.

The Boom Set jack enables reception and transmission with the flight crew, the Boom
Mic jack allows transmission to the flight crew and the Headphone jack enables
reception from the flight crew.

Additional observer headset jacks are located in the headset storage areas along the
back wall of the flight compartment.

3. IOS Page System


The IOS software is used to create, control and monitor a training session. The IOS
pages can be used to select predefined scenarios, initialize various parameters, and
control or monitor the simulated environment, such as weather, aircraft position and
malfunctions.

You may also create lesson plans to automate the training environment using the
Lesson Plan Studio utility. For further information on creating lesson plans refer to
the Lesson Plan Studio User Guide.
3.1 IOS Pages Overview
The IOS pages enable you to view and operate the various simulator controls and
settings. The control information and performance readouts are grouped by category.
The pages consist of touch-select areas, non-volatile comments, and volatile fields in
which the status or value of variables appear.

To access an IOS page, select the appropriate category tab and then select the page
you would like to display (see Figure 3-1).

There are two types of page select functions, discrete and variable. Discrete functions,
are toggled on or off by touching the appropriate button. When a discrete function is
selected the button turns green. Variable functions, which may be selected to any
value within a predefined range, are modified by touching the appropriate button,
entering a value through the displayed keypad or slider, and then pressing the EXEC
button. When a variable function is selected the button turns yellow.

A pop-up page displays a window that contains additional controls. A window icon at
the bottom right of a button indicates that a pop-up page will display when selecting
that function. When exiting the pop-up page, you are automatically returned to the
original page.

The footer area at the bottom of all IOS pages includes buttons that are related to the
current page as well as buttons for commonly used functions such as Help or Print.

Help mode displays a pop-up containing a description of a page or function. To


access the Help mode, select the Help button in the footer area. The Help button turns
green. Select an item on the page, such as a button, to view a description of its
function. If no selection is made within two to three seconds after Help mode is
activated, a pop-up describing the functionality of the current page appears. The Help
mode remains active until you select the Help button again.

3.2 IOS Pages


The following sub-sections describe the various IOS pages.

3.2.1 General Page Control Footer

Item Description

FLIGHT FREEZE Displays status and selection activates/deactivates the


following freezes: Position, Fuel, Heading, Airspeed and
Altitude. During a reposition, the freeze button is dark until
the reposition or flight trim is completed.

Item Description

CAPTURE FLIGHT Displays status and selection creates a flight capture into
the indicated capture slot. The button is dark if a capture,
recall, reposition, or slew is active or if the aircraft is
moving while on the ground.

SPEED UP X XX Displays status and selection allows input of the ground


speed, speed up factor. Selection maintains current
indicated airspeed but increases ground speed rate by the
speed up factor (Min = 1, Max = Dynamic).

The button will flash when the aircraft cannot maintain a


selected speed up factor. Although the speed up factor
displayed on the button does not change, the speed up
factor used in the simulation automatically reverts back to
one in conditions where LNAV is engaged and the roll or
pitch exceed reasonable angles. The purpose is to force
back a normal speed to allow the aircraft to follow the
flight plan properly in the critical phases of the flight plan.
Please note the fuel consumption follows the speed up
factor.

This button is dark when position slew is active.

CLEAR MALF Displays status and selection clears all active and
preselected malfunctions. This button is dark if no
malfunction is active or preselected. When selected, the
button remains active for 2 seconds.

HELP Displays status and selection activates/deactivates help


mode. Selecting an item on the page while help mode is
active displays a popup containing a description of the
selected item. If no selection is made within 2-3 seconds
after help mode is activated, a popup describing the
functionality of the current page appears.

PRINT Displays status and selection prints a hardcopy of the


current page displayed.

3.2.2 Map Control Footer


The map control footer provides general controls for the map display.

Item Description

PLAN Displays status and selection toggles between plan and area
map modes.

AUTO SCALE Displays status and selection toggles the map between the
automatic and the manual modes of scale change. Manual
mode inhibits the automatic changeover of map scale and
center as the aircraft flies out of the current map range.

SCALE Displays status and selection displays the map Scale popup
menu.

3.2.3 Scale
The Scale popup menu provides controls for changing the map scale. The scale
represents the range across the x-axis of the display in nautical miles.

3.2.4 Reposition to Cursor


This page allows confirmation of the reposition to cursor operation. Selecting the
Execute button repositions the aircraft to the current cursor position. Speed up is
deactivated. This button is dark if there has been no touch in the map area within the
last 30 seconds, or when a significant latitude/longitude change has occurred, until the
visual is ready.

3.2.5 Storm Cloud Footer

Item Description

LATITUDE/ Displays status and selection allows input of the storm


LONGITUDE cloud position.

WX TO MAP CURSOR Displays status and selection moves the storm cloud to the
current map cursor location. This button is dark until there
is a touch in the map area.

ROTATE Displays status and selection allows input of an angle of


rotation of the selected storm cloud orientation (Min = 0,
Max = 359 Degrees).

WIND EFFECTS Displays status and selection activates/deactivates the


effects of surface wind on the movement of the selected
storm cloud.

WEATHER EFFECTS Displays status and selection activates/deactivates


turbulence and sound effects of the storm cloud.

ACTIVATE Displays status and selection activates/deactivates the


specified storm cloud.

Item Description

ZOOM IN Displays status and selection increases the magnification of


the zoom window. The zoom factors available are 1:1, 1:2,
1:4, 1:8, 1:16.

ZOOM OUT Displays status and selection decreases the magnification of


the zoom window. The zoom factors available are 1:1, 1:2,
1:4, 1:8, 1:16.

ZOOM LEFT Displays status and selection will move the zoom window
to the left.

ZOOM UP Displays status and selection will move the zoom window
up.

ZOOM RIGHT Displays status and selection will move the zoom window
to the right.

Item Description

ZOOM DOWN Displays status and selection will move the zoom window
down.

NEXT In the case of overlapping stations, selection picks the next


station under the cursor. The station is colored cyan. This
button appears only when there are overlapping stations
under the cursor.

EXECUTE Displays status and selection fails the currently selected


station (or component). Selection on a station which is
already failed, restores that station (or component).

CANCEL Displays status and selection returns to the map control


header and cancels the current operation.

Item Description

The button will flash when the aircraft can not maintain a
selected speed up factor. Although the speed up factor
displayed on the button does not change, the speed up
factor used in the simulation automatically reverts back to
one in conditions where LNAV is engaged and the roll or
pitch exceed reasonable angles. The purpose is to force
back a normal speed to allow the aircraft to follow the
flight plan properly in the critical phases of the flight plan.
Please note the fuel consumption follows the speed up
factor.

This button is dark when position slew is active.

CLEAR MALF Displays status and selection clears all active and
preselected malfunctions. This button is dark if no
malfunction is active or preselected. When selected, the
button remains active for 2 seconds.

HELP Displays status and selection activates/deactivates help


mode. Selecting an item on the page while help mode is
active displays a popup containing a description of the
selected item. If no selection is made within 2-3 seconds
after help mode is activated, a popup describing the
functionality of the current page appears.

PRINT Displays status and selection prints a hardcopy of the


current page displayed.

NAV FAST ALIGN Displays status and selection aligns the reference system
bypassing the systems normal alignment period (IRS, INS,
AHRS, ADIRS). This button is dark when the reference
system is aligned or the reference system is off. When
selected, the button illuminates active for 2 seconds.

APU QUICK START Displays status and selection starts the APU. The electrical
and pneumatic outputs are available within 5 seconds. This
button is dark when the APU is running or if correct
conditions for operating are not met (master switch on, CB
in, fuel available). When selected, the button remains active
for 2 seconds.

ENG QUICK START Displays status and selection starts the dead engine
dependent upon the correct conditions being met (e.g., fuel
available, fuel levers at idle). This button is dark when all
engines are running. When selected, the button illuminates
active until the engine is started.

A/C ON JACKS Displays status and selection selects/deselects the aircraft


on jacks condition. It is possible to apply thrust without
falling off or rotating around the jacks. When selected, the
aircraft is raised such that the landing gear strut is fully
extended. It is then possible to raise and lower the gear.
This button is dark when the aircraft is moving. The A/C
On Jacks and the A/C On Chocks selections are mutually
exclusive.

manual mode, the reference airfield and runway do not
change unless there is new input from the instructor or
lesson plan.

Item Description

DAWN Displays status and selection activates dawn conditions on


the visual display. Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night are
mutually exclusive.

DAY Displays status and selection activates day conditions on


the visual display. Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night are
mutually exclusive.

DUSK Displays status and selection activates dusk conditions on


the visual display. Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night are
mutually exclusive.

NIGHT Displays status and selection activates night conditions on


the visual display. Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night are
mutually exclusive.

MARSHALLER Displays status and selection activates/deactivates


marshaller (i.e., he appears or disappears from the visual),
who signals in the aircraft to the gate when the aircraft is
within an appropriate position to the gate. This button is
dark if this function is not available (e.g., the aircraft is off
the ground, a pushback is in progress, etc.).

STOP BAR Displays status and selection turns on/off all the stop
barlights at the airport. When CAT II and below conditions
or night are selected, the stop bar shall be active. This can
be overridden by the instructor. Changing to environmental
conditions greater than CAT II or time of day which is not
night, will reset the stop bar to inactive.

APRT LIGHTING Selection displays the Airport Lighting popup menu.

GROUND TRAFFIC Selection displays the Ground Traffic popup menu. This
button is dark if gates traffic or TCAS traffic is active.

WX EFFECTS Displays active if Wx Effects is selected and selection


displays the Wx Effects popup menu.

MICROBURST Selection displays the Microburst popup menu. The button


is active if a microburst is activated.

WINDSHEAR The button is active if a predictive windshear is activated.
This button is dark if a non-predictive windshear is
activated.

CAVOK Displays status and selection activates CAVOK conditions


on the visual display.

CAVOK conditions:

• No cloud base below 5000 feet; no cumulonimbus.


• Visibility 6 statute miles/10 kilometers or more.
• No precipitation, thunderstorms, shallow fog, or low
drifting snow.

CIRCLING Displays status and selection activates CIRCLING1000-


3sm/1000-4.82km/304.8-4.82km conditions on the visual
display. In case of metric or Japan units, will display 1000-
5km instead of 1000-4.82km. In case of China or France
units, will display 300-5km instead of 304.8-4.82km.This
button is dark if the reference runway lighting does not
support the specific preset weather.

NON-PREC Displays status and selection activates NON-PREC800-


2sm/800-3.2km/243.84-3km conditions on the visual
display. In case of metric or Japan units, will display 800-
3km instead of 800-3.2km. In case of China or France
units, will display 250-3km instead of 243.84-3.2km.This
button is dark if the reference runway lighting does not
support the specific preset weather.

CAT I Displays status and selection activates CAT I conditions on


the visual display. This button is dark if the reference
runway lighting does not support the specific preset
weather.

CAT II Displays status and selection activates CAT II conditions


on the visual display. This button is dark if the reference
runway lighting does not support the specific preset
weather.

The Airport Lighting popup menu displays status and provides controls for modifying
airport light intensities for any runway of the reference airport.

VISUAL LANDING Displays status and selection allows input of VLA lighting
AID brightness intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

Item Description

APPROACH Displays status and selection allows input of approach


lighting intensity for the active reference runway (Min = 0,
Max = 5).

CENTERLINE Displays status and selection allows input of centerline


lighting intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

STROBE Displays status and selection allows input of the strobe


lighting intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

TD ZONE Displays status and selection allows input of touch down


zone lighting intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

RANDOM INTENSITY Displays status and selection enables/disables the runway


lighting system to have random intensity lighting. Selection
affects lighting for Edge and Ends, Centerline, and TD
Zone.

ALL RUNWAY Displays status and selection allows input of all lighting
LIGHTS intensities for the active visual lighting runway (i.e.,
horizon, reils, centerline/touchdown, runway, VLA,
approach and environment lighting). A star is displayed
when all light intensities are not the same for the selected
runway (Min = 0, Max = 5).

REILS Displays status and selection allows input of reils


brightness intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

EDGE AND ENDS Displays status and selection allows input of runway edge
and ends lighting intensity (Min = 0, Max = 5).

TAXI Displays status and selection allows input of all taxi light
intensities for the active airport (Min = 0, Max = 5).

STOP BAR Displays status and selection turns on/off all the stop bar
lights at the airport.

CITY LIGHTS Displays status and selection allows input of environment


light intensity for the area around the active airport
(Min = 0, Max = 5).

3.2.20 Ground Traffic


The Ground Traffic popup menu displays a summary of previously recorded ground
traffic scenarios and provides controls for activating/deactivating the scenario on the
visual display.

button. The model returns to the start point if not stopped
prior to the end of the recording.

3.2.21 Weather Effects


The Weather Effects popup menu provides controls for selecting weather effects such
as thunder, rain or snow.

Item Description

LIGHT Displays status and selection sets the amount of rain to


33%. If no clouds are defined, it will automatically insert
clouds. This button is dark when the temperature is below
-5 degrees Celsius. Visibility is set to 15 nautical miles
unless restricted by a previously entered below cloud
visibility. When rain is deselected, visibility goes back to
the pre-rain visibility. If no cloud existed before the rain
was selected, then cloud will be removed when rain is
deselected.

Item Description

MODERATE Displays status and selection sets the amount of rain to


66%. If no clouds are defined, it will automatically insert
clouds. This button is dark when the temperature is below
-5 degrees Celsius. Visibility is set to 5 nautical miles
unless restricted by a previously entered below cloud
visibility. When rain is deselected, visibility goes back to
the pre-rain visibility. If no cloud existed before the rain
was selected, then cloud will be removed when rain is
deselected.

HEAVY Displays status and selection sets the amount of rain to


100%. If no clouds are defined, it will automatically insert
clouds. This button is dark when the temperature is below
-5 degrees Celsius. Visibility is set to 1 nautical mile unless
restricted by a previously entered below cloud visibility.
When rain is deselected, visibility goes back to the pre-rain
visibility. If no cloud existed before the rain was selected,
then cloud will be removed when rain is deselected.

HAIL Displays status and selection sets light amount of hail to


33%. If cloud is not active, it will automatically insert
cloud. This button is dark when the temperature is below -5
degrees Celsius.

LIGHTNING & Displays status and selection activates/deactivates thunder


THUNDER and lightning simulation.

BLOWING SAND Displays status and selection activates/deactivates blowing


sand simulation. This control has no effect if the surface
wind is zero. This button is dark when the temperature is
below -5 degrees Celsius.

WINTER SCENE Displays status and selection turns on/off the winter scene
on the visual. This button is dark when the temperature is
above 20 degrees Celsius or when a significant
latitude/longitude change has occurred, until the visual is
ready.

FALLING SNOW Displays status and selection activates/deactivates falling


snow simulation. This button is dark when the temperature
is above 5 degrees Celsius.

3.2.22 Microburst
The Microburst popup menu provides controls for preselecting microburst profiles
(only one profile can be active at a time). See legend below for more details.

Legend:

White Circle The white circle is the reference point of a group of microburst
cells. It can be moved by changing the values of the X-Y position
buttons.

Red Circle(s) The red circle(s) are the microburst cells. They are located at a
fixed predefined distance from the reference point.

Offset Distances The X-Y position buttons represent the offset distances of the
reference point (white circle). By changing the offset distances,
the user can move the reference point to the desired position. This
will also move the microburst cells (red circle). These offsets will
be kept in memory up until the microburst scenario is deselected.

The Predictive Windshear popup menu provides controls for activating a predictive
windshear profile.

Item Description

X POSITION Displays status and selection allows the instructor to enter


the x position of the fixed windshear relative to the
touchdown point on the runway in nautical miles. This
button is dark if no windshear is selected (Min = -8,
Max = 5).

Y POSITION Displays status and selection allows the instructor to enter


the y position of the fixed windshear relative to the
touchdown point on the runway in nautical miles. This
button is dark if no windshear is selected (Min = -3,
Max = 3).

3.2.27 Turbulence Types Priority


The list of turbulence types are ordered in a priority sequence. If more than one
turbulence type is non-zero, the higher priority turbulence type in the list will affect
the aircraft once its value exceeds the value of a lower priority turbulence type. The
active turbulence type intensity will be displayed in red. This is true for all turbulence
types except for the base turbulence type, which is displayed in green when active.

The instructor has the ability to enable or disable the effect of the specified turbulence
types on the aircraft, except for the manually entered turbulence, which is always
enabled.

3.2.28 Aircraft Upset


The Aircraft Upset page allows the instructor to force the aircraft into an unusual
attitude situation during flight without invoking a flight freeze. An upset is performed
by selecting a point on the pitch and roll graph and then selecting the activate button.

Item Description

ACTIVATE Displays status and selection activates the aircraft upset


function based on the instructor requested pitch and roll
angles. The function is active as long as the aircraft is being
forced into the unusual attitude position.

3.2.29 Icing
The Icing popup menu displays status and allows input of icing intensity. Ice will
accumulate and be removed at a realistic and constant rate.

Item Description

LIGHT Displays status and selection sets light rate and quantity of
airframe/wing ice build up to 33%.

MODERATE Displays status and selection sets moderate rate and


quantity of airframe/wing ice build up to 67%.

SEVERE Displays status and selection sets severe rate and quantity
of airframe/wing ice build up to 100%.

The Clouds & Visibility popup menu allows the instructor to define cloud thickness
and type for different layers.

visibility in the selected unit (kilometers/statute miles).

Item Description

If flight freeze is not active, a change to A/C wind speed or


direction is immediately ramped, at a pre-determined rate,
to the requested value.

If flight freeze is active, a change to the A/C wind speed or


direction is delayed until flight freeze is released.

The advisory message, Wind is Changing, will appear in


the warning footer area of the IOS until the change is
completed. The ramped A/C wind reading will be indicated
on the IOS while the new value is reached.

OAT Displays status and selection allows input of outside air


temperature in the selected unit (Celsius/Fahrenheit). The
entire temperature profile will be offset by the change in
the outside air temperature (Dynamic Min/Max).

NOTE: OAT is the Outside Air Temperature at the


aircraft location.

If the aircraft is on the ground, the OAT change is


instantaneous regardless of flight freeze.

If the aircraft is in the air and flight freeze is not active, a


change to OAT is immediately ramped, at a pre-determined
rate, to the requested value.

If the aircraft is in the air and flight freeze is active, a


change to OAT is delayed until flight freeze is released.

The advisory message, Temperature is Changing, will


appear in the warning footer area of the IOS until the
change is completed. The ramped OAT reading will be

The Surface Wind popup menu displays a circle with vectors representing the current
surface wind speed and direction. Wind speed is represented by the length of the
vectors. Wind direction is represented by the direction of the vectors. The white
vector represents the current wind and the red represents the new wind input. The
green arrow represents the A/C heading. Input is done directly by touching on the
circle.

WIND GUST Displays status and selection allows input of wind gust.
Gust input is additional to the mean wind. If the mean wind
speed at A/C is 15 kt (7.5 m/s) and the gust entered value is
10 kt (5 m/s), the instantaneous wind at A/C will randomly
vary between 15 kt (7.5 m/s) and 25 kt (12.5 m/s). This
button is dark if the wind is 5 kt (2.5 m/s) or less. If the
surface wind is set to calm conditions, the gust value will
be reset and the button will be dark.
(Min = 0, Max = 25 kt)
(Min = 0, Max = 12.5 m/s)

CALM WIND Displays status and selection eliminates wind at the surface
(i.e., sets surface wind speed to 0 knots, surface wind
direction to 0 degrees, and wind gust to 0 knots).

SURFACE FRICTION Displays status and selection increases the surface wind by
2 kt/1000 ft and veers (increases in the northern
hemisphere) and backs (decreases in the southern
hemisphere) in direction up to a maximum altitude of 3000
feet above reference runway elevation. This will only occur
if there is a surface wind active.

L10 Displays status and selection sets a surface wind coming in


towards the runway from the left, at a right angle to the
runway, having a wind speed of 10 knots. The entire wind
profile will be offset by the change in the airfield wind.

R10 Displays status and selection sets a surface wind coming in


towards the runway from the right, at a right angle to the
runway, having a wind speed of 10 knots. The entire wind
profile will be offset by the change in the airfield wind.

3.2.34 Airport/En Route Environment


The Airport/En Route Environment page allows the instructor to define environment
conditions at 5 different airports, as well as en route weather conditions. There are
two different modes which determine when multiple weather airport conditions will
be copied to the ambient weather conditions.

The first mode uses distance to airport. The specific airport conditions are copied into
ambient weather conditions when the A/C is within 50 NM from that airport. If en
route conditions are defined, then they will be copied into ambient weather conditions
when the A/C is flying outside the 50 NM radius of any of the 5 defined airports.
Therefore, if any airport, for which no weather conditions are defined, becomes the
reference airport, the en route weather conditions will apply to the ambient weather
conditions at that airport.

The second mode uses the reference airport that is specified on the reposition page.
When the reference airport matches a multiple weather airport, the specific airport
conditions are copied into ambient weather conditions. If en route conditions are
defined, then they will be copied into ambient weather conditions when the reference
airport on the reposition page does not match a multiple weather airport.

The buttons that call the popup menu to define the environment for an individual
airport or en route will highlight when the aircraft is in that region. The airport/en
route environment popup buttons are dark when the airport for that button is not
defined or the en route is not activated.

WIND GUST Displays status and selection allows input of wind gust.
RELATIVE Gust input is additional to the mean wind. If the mean wind
speed at A/C is 15 kt (7.5 m/s) and the gust entered value is
10 kt (5 m/s), the instantaneous wind at A/C will randomly
vary between 15 kt (7.5 m/s) and 25 kt (12.5 m/s). This
button is dark if the wind is 5 kt (2.5 m/s) or less. If the
surface wind is set to calm conditions, the gust value will
be reset and the button will be dark.

(Min = 0, Max = 25 kt)

WIND CALM Displays status and selection eliminates wind at the surface
(i.e., sets surface wind speed to 0 knots, surface wind
direction to 0 degrees, and wind gust to 0 knots).

SURFACE FRICTION Displays status and selection increases the surface wind by
2 kt/1000 ft and veers (increases in the northern
hemisphere) and backs (decreases in the southern
hemisphere) in direction up to a maximum altitude of 3000
feet above reference runway elevation. This will only occur
if there is a surface wind active.

L10 Displays status and selection sets a surface wind coming in


towards the runway from the left, at a right angle to the
runway, having a wind speed of 10 knots. The entire wind
profile will be offset by the change in the airfield wind.

R10 Displays status and selection sets a surface wind coming in


towards the runway from the right, at a right angle to the
runway, having a wind speed of 10 knots. The entire wind
profile will be offset by the change in the airfield wind.

L20 Displays status and selection sets a surface wind coming in

selected, the button remains active for 2 seconds.

FUEL USED Displays status and selection resets the ‘fuel used amber
INDICATOR dash’ indication allowing the fuel used display to function
normally. When selected, the button remains active for 2
seconds. This button is dark when the ’fuel used’ display is
functioning normally or if the aircraft is not on ground.

SYSTEMS Selection resets all systems, including temperatures, to


normal operating values unless a malfunction is active or
unless a specific system is intentionally excluded. When
selected, the button remains active for 2 seconds.

AIR CONDITIONING Displays status and selection resets the air conditioning
temperature to normal. This button is dark when the air
conditioning temperature is normal. When selected, the
button remains active for 2 seconds.

FIRE BOTTLES Displays status and selection refills all fire bottles. This

ENGINE EGT/ITT Displays status and selection resets the Engine EGT or ITT,

button is dark when the ram air turbine is stowed. When
selected, the button remains active for 2 seconds.
RECHARGE Displays status and selection recharges batteries. This
BATTERIES button is dark when all the batteries are charged. When
selected, the button remains active for 2 seconds.

BRAKE TEMP Displays status and selection resets the brake temperature
to the ambient temperature. This button is dark when the
brake temperature is at ambient temperature. When
selected, the button remains active for 2 seconds.

FREEZES
TOTAL Displays status and selection activates/deactivates total
freeze. When total freeze is active, the following occurs:
• All flight parameters such as pitch, bank, heading, and
airspeed freeze.
• Altitude and position freeze.
• Flight controls freeze irrespective of whether the
autopilot is on or off (control loading is not frozen).
• Motion freezes except for washout as predicted by the
flight conditions at the moment of freeze.
• All aircraft systems freeze. Crew selections are no
longer reflected in changing indications except where
a selector directly drives an indicator. The
communication system continues to function.
• Sound level decreases to zero.
Releasing of total freeze does not cause violent control or
motion movements, irrespective of whether the autopilot is
on or off and independent of the control positions at the
moment of freeze release.

FLIGHT Displays status and selection activates/deactivates the


following freezes: Position, Fuel, Heading, Airspeed and
Altitude. During a reposition, the freeze button is dark until
the reposition or flight trim is completed.

POSITION Displays status and selection freezes/unfreezes the aircraft


at the current geographical position. The aircraft flies
normally during the freeze. During a reposition, the freeze
button is dark until the reposition or flight trim is
completed.

FUEL Displays status and selection activates/deactivates fuel


freeze. With fuel freeze active, all instruments other than
fuel quantity indicate normally. All other aircraft systems
remain unaffected except for the effects of frozen fuel.
Refuel is possible when fuel freeze is active. During a
reposition, the freeze button is dark until the reposition or
flight trim is completed.

ALTITUDE Displays status and selection activates/deactivates aircraft


altitude freeze. No other parameters are affected. During a
reposition, the freeze button is dark until the reposition or

Follow the steps below to set up scenario intruder for TCAS training.

(1) Select direction of scenario intruder.


Sets direction of the intruder relative to own A/C.

(2) Select level change scenario intruder.


Sets change of rate of climb of the intruder.

(3) Select transponder type of scenario intruder.


Sets transponder mode of intruder.

Mode A: Intruders will not report their altitude. On the TCAS display, the
intruder symbol will be shown without any altitude tag. Therefore no
Resolution Advisory is issued by TCAS.

Mode C/S: The normal mode for TCAS. The intruders will report their
altitude and TCAS will issue Traffic Advisory and Resolution Advisory if any.

(4) Select scenario advisory.


Very important: the own A/C must be in stable path (i.e. own A/C must be in
stable climb or descent up to a max V/S described below, stable heading and
constant speed).

Scenario 1 - Traffic Advisory only


TCAS issues a traffic advisory.
Number of intruders specified in scenario is 1.
Own A/C V/S max limit +-1000fpm.

Scenario 2 - Resolution Advisory, No Climb/No Descend

3.2.86 FMS Memory Save/Recall


The FMS Memory Save/Recall page provides controls for saving the current flight
plan and loading previously saved flight plans. The unprotected and password
protected flight plans work in a similar way: a snapshot of the FMS memory is taken
and saved on the host. The recall will load the saved file into the FMS memory.

NOTE: The NDB is updated every 28 days. When this happens, all flight plans
created with the previous NDB will no longer be available. Therefore,
when a new NDB is installed, the flight plans must be recreated.

Password Protected/Unprotected Flight Plan Recall

(1) Select the desired flight plan NUMBER.


(2) Select RECALL to initialize the load procedure.

Password Protected/Unprotected Flight Plan Save

(1) For a password protected flight plan, enter a valid PASSWORD.


(2) Select the desired flight plan NUMBER.
(3) Select SAVE.
(4) After a few seconds, a message will appear to enter a description.
(5) Press the DESCRIPTION button on the top of the page to enter the description
or press CANCEL to keep the generic name.

SIMSOFT SAVE/RECALL:

Selecting SAVE sends a command to the FMS to save a copy of the entered flight
plan in the FMS internal memory. Only one flight plan can be saved in this manner at
a time. This flight plan is not saved on the host. Selecting RECALL recalls the flight
plan saved in the FMS memory.

interlock messages represent the status of safety devices
which prevent the activation of motion and control loading.
The devices are placed at locations such as visual access
doors, cockpit door, etc., and will trigger the interlock
messages when the device sensors are not in the required
state. When selected, the button remains active for 2
seconds.

The CNIA page appears automatically when an aircraft situation does not correspond
with the proper controls position as the result of a reposition or a snapshot setup
recall. The page remains on the display as long as any control remains out of
agreement, or until a new page request is made, or the FLIGHT FREEZE is removed.
The possible controls not in agreement on this page are as follows:

The Graphic Recorder page contains a chart area on the left side and controls on the
right side. The bottom left area (below the chart area) is reserved for the X axis scroll
bar, which only appears when X axis scrolling is available.

A dataset (set of parameters) may be loaded initially by default if defined in the


dataset file ($CAE_GRREC_ROOT/dataset.xml where $ CAE_GRREC_ROOT
represents the value of the logical name CAE_GRREC_ROOT).

The right side can display 3 different panels:

CURRENT Selection calls up a popup containing the following


PARAMS INFO information for each available parameter:

CLEAR ALL Selection removes all the parameters from the chart area
and clears all points in the sampling buffers. It also resets
the X-axis with the default scale.

REINITIALIZE Selection clears all points in the sampling buffer and


reloads the initial dataset if one is defined in the dataset file
($CAE_GRREC_ROOT/dataset.xml where
$CAE_GRREC_ROOT represents the value of the logical
name CAE_GRREC_ROOT). If no initial dataset is
defined, this button performs the same function as Clear
All.

RESET SCALES Selection computes appropriate Y-axis scales for the


current data.

START/PAUSE Selection starts or pauses the sampling process. When the


SAMPLING sampling process is started, this button becomes green. In
that case, pressing the button will pause the sampling
process.

CLEAR POINTS Selection clears all points in the sampling buffers. Note that
this function is different from the Clear All function since it
does not remove the parameters from the chart area.

Item Description

INSERT/REMOVE Selection calls up popup pages to allow insertion and


PARAMETERS removal of parameters.

It calls up an index popup page where the user can select a


parameter group. When that parameter group is selected,
another popup page appears.

This last popup page contains buttons labeled with short


descriptions of the parameters in the selected group. When
a button is colored green, it means that the parameter is
already inserted. Pressing the button will remove the
parameter from the chart area.

When the button is colored gray, it means that the


parameter is not inserted. In that case, pressing the button
will insert the parameter on the chart area.

MULTIPLE Selection toggles the view between single and multiple


CHARTS/SINGLE chart(s).
CHART
The default (initial) view is single chart. That is, the
parameters are all plotted on the same chart.

When in single chart view, the button is labeled Multiple


Charts and pressing it will switch the view to multiple
charts. That is, the parameters will be plotted on separate
smaller charts, one chart per parameter.

When in multiple charts view, the button is labeled Single


Chart and pressing it will switch the view back to a single
chart.

DATASETS Selection calls up a popup page that allows the user to:

● Create, remove and reorder datasets (predefined set of


parameters).
● Load a specific dataset on the chart area.

of divisions on the Y axis is the same for all charts.

X PAR Selection displays the X Parameter panel on the right side


of the page. The X Parameter panel contains controls that
allow you to modify the parameter on the horizontal axis
and its minimum and maximum.

MAIN INDEX Selection displays the Main Index panel on the right side of
the page. The Main Index panel contains the most
frequently used graphic recorder controls.

3.2.97 Datasets
The Datasets popup page allows you to:

● Create, remove and reorder datasets (predefined set of parameters).

The top panel (INDEX) displays a short description of each previously created
dataset. A single dataset can be selected (multiple selections are not allowed). The
selected dataset could then be moved up and down in the list. It could also be deleted
or inserted into the chart area. The bottom panel contains controls to perform
operations on the selected dataset or to create a new dataset based on the parameters
currently inserted on the chart(s).

Item Description

DATASET Selection allows you to choose a predefined dataset. The


SELECTION selected dataset can then be moved in the list, deleted or
inserted into the chart area.

MOVE UP Selection moves the selected dataset one position up in the


list. This function is not available if the selected dataset is
already the first one in the list or if Current Parameters is
selected.

MOVE DOWN Selection moves the selected dataset one position down in
the list. This function is not available if the selected dataset
is already the last one in the list or if Current Parameters is
selected.

DELETE Selection deletes the selected dataset. A popup window


appears to warn the user that the dataset will be
permanently deleted. This function is not available if
Current Parameters is selected.

INSERT INTO Selection inserts into the chart area, the parameters defined
CHARTS in the selected dataset. Note that before performing this
operation, the user could preview the parameters using the
Preview function. The Insert Into Charts function is not
available if Current Parameters is selected.

Item Description

DESCRIPTION Selection allows input of a short description for the new


dataset. Creating a new dataset based on the parameters
currently inserted on the chart(s) is done as follows:

(1) Select Current Parameters. This will remove the


selection from the top panel (INDEX). As well, the
Move Up, Move Down, Delete and Insert Into
Charts buttons will become unavailable. The
Description and Save as New Dataset buttons will
become available.
(2) Press the Description button. A keyboard will appear
allowing you to enter a short description for the new
dataset.
(3) Finally, press the Save as New Dataset button. The
newly created dataset will then appear on the top
panel (INDEX). Note that before pressing Save as
New Dataset, the user could preview the parameters
that will be saved in the new dataset using the
Preview function.

SAVE AS NEW Selection creates a new dataset containing the current set of
DATASET parameters on the chart(s) and with the short description
previously entered using the Description button. Creating a
new dataset based on the parameters currently inserted on
the chart(s) is done as follows:

When the Current Parameters button is selected, the popup


window will contain information on the currently plotted

The Graphic Recorder page contains a chart area on the left side and controls on the

dataset file ($CAE_GRREC_ROOT/dataset.xml where $ CAE_GRREC_ROOT
represents the value of the logical name CAE_GRREC_ROOT).

Item Description

CHOOSE FROM Selection calls up popup pages to allow change of the X


PREDEFINED (horizontal) axis parameter. It calls up an index popup page
PARAMETERS where the user can select a parameter group. When that
parameter group is selected, another popup page appears.

This last popup page contains buttons labeled with short


descriptions of the parameters in the selected group.
Pressing one of those buttons will change the X axis
parameter to the chosen parameter.

MIN Selection allows input of the X axis minimum value.

MAX Selection allows input of the X axis maximum value.

X DESCRIPTION Selection allows input of the X axis parameter description.

X EXPRESSION Selection allows input of the X axis parameter expression.


The expression can be any valid CDB label or an arithmetic
expression involving CDB labels.

Item Description

INSERT DEFAULT Selection inserts a default parameter on the Y axis. The


PARAMETER parameter will be inserted at the end of the current
parameter list. Up to 16 parameters are allowed.

This newly created parameter could then be modified using


the other controls of the Y Parameters panel.

INDEX Selection allows input of the index of the Y axis parameter


to be modified.

Modifications will be done using the other controls of the Y


Parameters panel. The default index is 1. That is, if no
index has been entered, modifications are done on the
parameter at index 1. Indexes are from 1 to the current
number of Y axis parameters.

DELETE Selection removes the parameter at the previously entered


PARAMETER index (or at index 1 if no index has been entered). If the
current parameter list is empty, pressing this button has no
effect.

MIN Selection allows input of the minimum value of the


parameter at the previously entered index (or at index 1 if
no index has been entered).

MAX Selection allows input of the maximum value of the


parameter at the previously entered index (or at index 1 if
no index has been entered).

Y DESCRIPTION Selection allows input of the description of the parameter at


the previously entered index (or at index 1 if no index has
been entered).

Y EXPRESSION Selection allows input of the expression for the Y


parameter at the previously entered index (or at index 1 if
no index has been entered). The expression can be any
valid CDB label or an arithmetic expression involving CDB
labels.

COLOR Selection allows input of the curve color index of the


parameter at the previously entered index (or at index 1 if
