STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Respected Sir/Madam

My name is varun kumar from goraya ( Punjab) reapplying for the study permit of
Canada which was refused earlier on the following grounds:

“I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your
stay, as
stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.”

INTRODUCTION

Advancing in the field of management came on my wishlist while I was working

as a manager in ELEVATION INSTITUTE, Phagwara. For more than a year, I have
extensively led teams and learned the art of adoption, execution, direction, and
implementation. My performance soon gave my managing director the
confidence and I was given the opportunity to make a well-structured plan to
expand the business. Soon my performance has won me recognition in the
organization and this incident inspire me to pursue Project Management course
which will take my career to the next level. Most importantly, this course will help
me to achieve my goal of becoming Project Management Professional (PMP)
after gaining desired experience to boost my career.

ACADEMICS AND EXTRA-CURRCUILLAR

My decision to major in mechanical engineering is a direct result of my desire to

apply my expertise to improve the industrial economics and management
practices and I scored 65.88% in my graduation. I got desired percentage in 10 th
and 12th grade i.e 77% & 74.1% respectively. During my under graduation in
mechanical engineering at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, I gained
initial formal exposure to project management through courses like
“Management Practices and Organizational Behavior”, “Managerial Economics”,
“Project and Production Management”, “Management Information Systems”,
from these courses I have taken broader outlook about the management
methods and its applications. I was active in extra-curricular activities especially
during the college tenure where i organized various events such as debate
competitions, university festivals and cultural events. I enjoy being part of such
events as it teaches me practical aspects of management. However, i enriched my
technical knowledge to meet the industry requirements by participating in various
worskshops such as GRAFIK-2, AERONICA, Basic vehicle dynamics, Fibre Moulding
and Stereolithography (3D Printing). All such workshops will prove to be beneficial
when I will be expected to work on various sophisticated technologies.

PROFESSIONAL CAREER
After the graduation, I joined Anglo-eastern ship management (worked for almost
13 months) to expand on my technical horizons by working on various machines
such heat exchangers, boilers and refrigeration etc. In this job my major job
responsibilities were to provide assistance to my seniors in overhauling the
machines and perform routine checks, maintaining the records of the my
department and complete my assignments. All these tasks inculcated in me the
sense of punctuality, discipline, time management skills and contributed in my
holistic development.

Currently im working as a manager in ELEVATION INSTITUTE, Phagwara (Punjab),

I have joined this organization on 25th October 2018. My major job responsibilities
are to handle team of 10-15 employees and schedule their shifts, hire the
employees and contribute my skills in expanding the business by performing
market research and come up with innovative strategies to compete with other
organizations. Therefore, having diverse experience of management along with
the technical knowledge will boost my professional career because in handling
the projects individual should be sound technically and must have mandatory skill
set of management. I believe that I have now reached the stage where I must
now further enrich my knowledge by pursuing Project Management course at
Loyalist college (Brunel).
REASON WHY I CHOOSE LOYALIST COLLEGE (BRUNEL)
Browsing the college’s website, im highly impresses with accomplished faculty
members, environment and facilities the college has to offer to its students. I also
realize that curriculum offered at this college is designed to meet the demands of
the present day industry covering, cost management and risk management
amongst others. The strength of students is less in each class and smaller size of
campus will enable the faculty members to monitor the performance of each and
every student and provide supports as needed. I have come to a conclusion that
the project management program offered by this college is excellently structured
to match my requirements. I believe that studying in this college with high-tech
facilities, excellent faculty and the highly suitable environment are of utmost
necessity to achieve new heights in life.

WHY I CHOOSE CANADA TO PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION

Canadian study provides numerous advantages to the international students.
Firstly, the curriculum of the colleges is well-structured which are more practical
in nature thus, equip the students according to the demands of the industry.
Nextly, the tuition fee in Canada is reasonable as compare to other English
speaking countries. So, students from middle-class income have the privilege to
study in this welcoming country. Moreover, Canada is one of the safest country of
the world having negligible crime rate. The people of Canada are very supportive
to all the immigrants and welcome them whole-heartedly. All the above
mentioned factors I have considered to choose Canada as my study destination.

Now I have acquired the basic aptitude, skills, knowledge and work experience in
the field of management, I feel this is the apt time to pursue my graduate study in
project management and I strongly believe that my aptitude and aspirations find a
terrific match in this program. The foremost reason why I choose this course is
that it will not only upgrade my education but also hone my personality which will
help me to standout in the industry. In order to attain a satisfactorily job in this
industry this course will equip me with basic as well advance strategies which will
help me to become PMP (Project Management Professional) and I can start-up
my own organization after acquiring desired experience.

This course addresses all aspects of industry either its effective communication or
managing issues and resolve conflicts and many more benefits are there. Before
opting this course I have visited various industries and talked with the high-level
management from where I got positive response about the course as well as its
bright scope in India.

All such reasons reinforce my decision to pursue Project Management course as it

will help me to achieve my professional goals.

After the completion of this I see a prosperous future back in india since according

To attain higher education from Canada, I draw my inspiration from my
workplace. While working in ELEVATION INSTITUTE in PHAGWARA (PUNJAB), my
employer gave me assignment to make a well-structured plan of opening new
branches of the institute in other cities as there was urgent need of expanding the
business to survive in the market. In order to accomplish the task, I took
reference of the subjects which I have been taught in my college such as
management practices and organizational behavior, project and production
management, management information systems. The outcome of my assignment
was very positive as my owner like the business plan, strategies for the
advertisement, cost estimation and risk management of the whole project. The
appreciation which I gained from the owner and other staff members about my
business plans has intented me to pursue project management course.

The skillset which I will attain from this course and post-graduation work permit in
Canada will act as a driving force to build strong foundation in this career which
makes me skilled professional. After attaining relevant experience after coming
back to india in this career I will apply for PMP (project management professional)
certification and acquire a job in renowned company. However, I will look to
channelise my potentioal by pursuing executive MBA from prominent colleges of
abroad which is my long-term goal. Thus, it will help me to reach the top level of
the career at much faster pace.

Project management has been one of the flourishing fields in India and will
continue to follow the same trajectory. Drastic developments can be seen in 
methods and strategies to carry out the tasks in this field. Having worked in
elevation institute for over a year, I come across  range of methodologies,
techniques and tools available to managers which has led me to believe that
there is so much to explore and discover in this field. More importantly, my
decision of pursuing higher education from abroad will ease the difficulties to
achieve my long-term goal to lead the organization as i will be exposed to
exceptional education facilities. To prepare myself to meet the demanding
standards of this industry, I wish to pursue post graduate diploma in project
management from St Lawrence college.

During my under graduation in mechanical engineering at Lovely Professional

University, Phagwara, I gained initial formal exposure to project management
through courses like “Management Practices and Organizational Behavior”,
“Managerial Economics”, “Project and Production Management”, “Management
Information Systems”, from these courses I have taken broader outlook about the
management methods and its applications. The course in project and production
management has exposed to plethora of applications of Operations Research in
Project Management. During my tenure in college, i participated in various
workshops such as Fibre Moulding and Stereolithography (3D Printing) which
enriched my technical aptitude, moreover when i will be expected to use latest
technology to compete in the market, at that time such advanced skills will come
into play.Apart from that, I organised various events such as debate, cultural and
technical competitions which had not only taught me about the practical aspects
of management but also hone my qualities of leadership, team management,
coordination etc. I believe that project management requires both the technical
as well as theoretical knowledge which I have acquired during my graduation.
Thus, my decision to pursue project management at this juncture of my career
will be an ideal step to attain my professional goals.

Currently, I have been working in Elevation Institute, Phagwara, Punjab as a

manager. I have joined this organization on 25 th October 2018 and my major job
responsibilities include managing team of 10-15 employees, schedule their shifts,
guide and motivate the employees to attain the organization goals, conduct
training sessions to upgrade their skills. One of the major project of which I was
part of during my tenure as a manager includes when the managing director of
the company instructed me to present a well-structured comprehensive business
plan to expand the business. Fortunately, everything goes well and I was able to
meet the expectations of the organization as well as the employees which
reinforced my decision to pursue this course. Previously, I had been working in
Anglo-eastern ship management, Mumbai. I worked there as engine cadet (ECDT)
and Junior engineer (JE) for about 13 months. I have been assigned to assist the
seniors in the routine checks of machines along with that maintaining and
updating the records of the machines, maintaining inventory of spare parts and
different types of fuel oil on the ship. Thus, my technical as well as management
skills were honed which will be utilized later in my career. Now, after having
acquired the basic aptitude, skills, knowledge and work experience in the field of
management, I fell this is the apt time to pursue my post graduate study in the
field of my interest.
