Week One - Context

CONTEXT

How did you find coming up It was quite difficult in finding an idea for my final major project that was
with an idea that challenged challenging so that is it out of my comfort zone but also an idea that at
you enough for your FMP? the same time was realistic and do able. So that I’m not being do
ambitious on how I choose to make my documentary, so that in the
end it works. In the end I came up with three ideas I knew I could do,
also ideas that I was very interested and passionate about. These ideas
were: Street Harassment, Corona Virus and Cannes Film Festival. These
ideas were topics that weren’t spoken about often in documentaries
especially, so I thought be interesting to go with one of these ideas so
that I can express my opinion but also others from different points of
view, to remain interesting. In the end through feedback I decided the
best idea to do was street harassment. I feel that all three of my ideas
chosen fit into the idea of it being challenging enough but also realistic.

How has writing a proposal Writing a detailed proposal has helped me a lot within finalising my
helped you with finalising idea. This is because it is split into lots of different sections so that my
your idea? work is organised, and it is clear of how I can complete it. This makes
easier for me to write my proposal. The proposal helps me identify what
is realistic towards making the documentary through the help of the list
of bullet points of what I can include. For example, it helps me think of
what locations I can use, what actors are available to me etc. it makes
it realistic to know what I can be capable of doing. It also helps me
know about my target audience. Knowing my target audience means
that I know what style of documentary would be appropriate to and I
now know how I can choose to show my story due to the young age
range.

How did the feedback help After receiving my survey, I checked the results to see what my family,
you adapt your idea – what friends and peers thought of my ideas. I came back with positive results
did you change after from all three of my ideas. Most people thought that my ideas weren’t
feedback? spoken about in documentaries often, so they thought it was good to
use them as topics. They had some interesting thoughts of how their
favourite idea from my selection could work and what I could show to
keep it interesting. This helped me progress my idea by using some of
their thoughts and add it to the idea they most liked. So, in the end I
decided to do a documentary on street harassment. I already had a
detailed outline of what I could do, how I could do it and where I could
do it. The people who responded to my survey really helped complete
my idea of small details of what I could include. I haven’t received
feedback from teachers yet. So far, I have used my survey as feedback
on my idea.
