2016 KINDER A & B SPECIFICATIONS

NEW TREETOPS Class Book and Workbook 1 & 2

Remember Kinder A is for pupils who are attending 1st grade and Kinder B for those in 2nd
grade

Children acquire language by taking part in meaningful activities that engage their interest
and imagination. In Treetops learning is favoured by interesting stories, songs, chants and
puzzles, which children love.

Speaking: pupils have lots of chances to develop their speaking skills. For example, by
acting out the stories, participating in games, playing different roles in pairwork activities
and taking part in mini-dialogues, which encourage interaction between them. We strongly
recommend that teachers speak English as much as possible, but use the mother tongue if
necessary to create trust and support. Let the children address you in Spanish until they
become more confident to use English.

Reading and Writing: Treetops Class Book 1 focuses on an oral-aural approach. However,
Treetops 2 presents the written form of the word together with the oral presentation and
teaches reading, starting from single words and going on to simple whole phrases. Writing
starts with copying single words first, then longer phrases. Having said that, we would like
to remind teachers that the final exam for Kinder A & B is only oral. There is a Practice
section (sort of workbook) at the back of the book.

Listening: Children need to hear a word several times before they can memorize and
reproduce it. Treetops presents new lexis through different listening activities in which the
children hear the words and, before being encouraged to use them, they are expected to give
a non-verbal response to show understanding.

We strongly recommend the use of the Teacher's Book, which will guide you throughout
the course together with the Teacher's Resource Pack 1 & 2, which contains Photocopy
Masters Book 1 & 2, posters of the seasons, puppets of Bud and Holly for interaction with the
pupils and flashcards for levels 1 & 2.

The final exam is only oral. It will consist in a class led by the teacher of the group, in which
all the contents seen along the year will be practised. An examiner will be watching the
group.
